• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

The KTM buyout has caused quite a stir, but we can only speculate with the current available information.

Would be interesting to see where everyone is at with their initial reaction now and then perhaps in 18-24 months when everything is known and the new models in full swing.

Lets keep this very simple and PLEASE... keep debating back and forth to a minimum here. State your reasons short and sweet and preferably in bullet form.

Thanks

I'll kick off...

I'm OK with it

- not happy if the X lites go away
- not concerned if the 449/511 go away
- may see Husky strengthen in motocross
- KTM strong in off-road market sector as opposed to previous owners BMW
- not sure about rebadged KTM's

We'll find out how many pinkin seed luvers are here if nothing else by the vote count on selection #1.

17 views and 5 votes ...must be some new kind of math ....

At least the bikes will move forward and not go away.

Hate the WP suspension but I can make it work since there are good tuners out there.

Not crazy about the linkless swingarm. Seems to spike more.

I voted OK at this point but I will change that to Loathe if they mess with the 125/144 engine/ergos or do like MOTORHEAD posted and make three flavors of KTM.

Ok with it.....would have been sad to see it get sold to some china bike builder...or tata motors...or mohindra...or Kim Jong...guess atk spent all their money on defunct cannondale....come on guys it could have been a lot worse!..think of it this way,... one of the most successful man in the industry who loves euro bikes, racing and is able to turn a profit and build some new bikes I will buy them....build me a great 2st , dealer support and I will be buying....I for one will embrace the change and hope that husky becomes a test bed for innovation, envy of the other guys, long live Husky...

Love it. A BMW based off road motorcycle company completely lacks drive. How many new motorcycles did we see from BMW that they didn't already have? The new KTM engineering is excellent. New water cooled oil engines are compact, smooth and powerful. We had the chance to test out at MY13 350 exc which weights 8lbs less than the 310R and puts out 45HP stock. How about real 500's that put out 60HP stock and not 39...

I'm OK with it for now, I have more faith in KTM's philosophy and offroad/MX R&D and implementation than in BMW's. I'll pass final judgement once I see what the NEW bikes are like, because noone knows and the speculation has reached rediculous levels.

Im really looking forward to the 2 stroke development of the brand. Fingers crossed for a WR200. Just hope they dont become rebadged KTM's.

If they do what they did to the Bergs, then I loathe it. The market don't need 3 flavors of KTM.

I agree. but at least they had a few good years of being very unique. I still like the 70 deg. engines.

As has been said as long as they don't do to husky what they did to husaberg. They have been sitting on the FI 2T technology until emissions laws forces it out of them, maybe we could see it on husky?
Also I have both orange and red bikes in my shed, both are really great machines that do what they are designed to do.

IMO KTM makes great off road bikes, I'm not really into riding what everyone else rides thats why I've loved my Husky's. If the new Husky is just a rebadged KTM my next bike may just be a Beta, I don't want to hear all the crap talk from all my dyed in orange buddies that ride KTM. Personally I wasn't real thrilled about the whole BMW thing although I never got to try a 449/511 bike. I guess it's just a wait and see thing.
