• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Post up pictures of your vintage Husqvarna bikes!

Hey Justin, whats the power like on the 430 compared to the 250 ? Not trying to say how fast my 250 is but if it had a paddle tire on it I think it would flip over . It's so fun to go through the gears and every gear is spaced out perfect for the power that it delivers ...

good question, of course you know the 87/88 is a lil different than all the other previous swede 250 bikes, it is much more powerful in the bottom and mid at a slight sacrifice to the top end. i have always felt my 88 kinda ran like a miniature big bore swede. the same powerband, just less power if that makes sense. i have never ran a 430 before really, altho i own/owned every other size. im still dialing the 430 altho im not investing "too" much time into that as it will get a lectron.
the main difference between the 430 and 250 is the grunt and willingness to rev. the 430 is slower to rev perhaps but is easier to loft the front end and carry for whatever distance you desire. handy especially when you bobble up a long hill or a bad area. my 400 needs rebuilt and a chassis assembled for it, but when it was running it revved and spooled quickly, probably my fastest swede in real terms.
basically to answer your question they are similar just different power levels. i agree 100 percent with what youre saying about your 250, its a great setup with a good gearbox. i have always gotten along well with bigbores, so i just alter my style a bit and the 430 is just as enjoyable!

also weird that i bought this 430 and used most of my 250 to build it, as i have the chassis dialed perfectly for me on the 250 already. so i just took the remnants of my 250 and 430, cleaned it all, put it in storage. the bike feels like it weighs 30 extra pounds from the 430 motor, something to be said for crank inertia i guess. im used to it now tho and it seems light again. i bet if i slipped my 250 back in it would handle and run like a 125 to me!

Do you know much about sem amal ignitions

Do you know much about sem amal ignitions
i know my fair share about them, enough to tell you this...
i owned about a half dozen complete ignitions and i sold them all. i run motoplats and if i wanted something better or wanted lights i would likely buy a new ignition like mzb or electrex.

84 WR250. As purchased, picked it up on Thursday. Looking forward to hit

ting some cross country races on it!

The bottom tensioner roller is the wrong one too. I will replace it and use the current one on the upper.
some people dont even run the bottom spring loaded tensioner but i like to. the upper one is not needed at all but i usually have an extra laying around that i throw new bearings in and bolt in the top. the chain never seems to touch it unless i get slack about chain adjustment or im really pounding the thing. nice bike, i have the same bike pretty much, chain guard and all. 2nd one actually. i traded my first 84 wr250 for my 95 360 and came upon another last year.
