• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

PVL IGNITION ADVICE 500 LC

hmmm, going to 1.5mm always seems to get rid of the back talk for me..it does hurt and the bike pays a prie for it as well..
at least the bike seems to pull longer with the retarded timing, just not quite as good response out of a tight turn.

Retarded timing give hotter exhaust at higher RPM = more HP.
More advanced timing gives colder exhaust = more Grunt.

So you are right.

hahahahaha response
a 500 out of a turn, not exactly like you were gonna fan the clutch
they pull harder than 85% of the riders could know what to do with
now on the street, that's different

not saying it isnt good enough, of course it still has enough bottom end, its a 500. when you are a gear tall sometimes you notice it, depends on your gearing. should the timing just be set at 0 btdc to really save the motor and foot since no one really knows what to do with a 500 anyways?

I can absolutely feel how the curve have changed now when I have retarded the ignition.
Changing the ignition on a big stroke give a bigger change than an 125 so it's more easy to feel.

thats what I'm talking about on the street you could feel it on the dirt they are hard to "hook up" so you really could spin past the flat spot from torque

Yeah thats true.
Easy to start vs 5 nm.
I take easy to start =)

I need to check my timing. It must be too advanced.
My 430 kicks like a mule... keeps me limping for days.

Obviously pays to strobe the ignition by turning over with an electric drill or similar without the plug in before attempting to start the engine.
