• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm also looking at taking my seat to a local upholsterer to see if they can replace the foam with some softer, more comfortable material. Should be able to reuse the original covering. We'll see.

Talked about that with my upholsterer and tried out some solutions. Softer foam would most probably mean more thickness. I tried that and was not pleased...

Original covering is surely nice. However its delicate and, more importantly, its glued to the foam with some kind of strange glue ? varnish ? If you intend to re-use it - tell the man to proceed with utmost care !

Thanks for the heads up.

Be aware that softer foam can be less comfortable for extended riding. Your body is designed to sit on the Ischial tuberosities ( sit bones). These are the lumps of bone at the base of the pelvis. With some softer foams it moves the pressure points to the soft tissue surrounding the proper load areas and reduces blood flow. That's why bicycle seats are reasonably hard. A 2 hour ride on a bicycle is a short ride, on my Husky it is a LOOOOOng one for my body's rear end.
Off road motorcycles need softer foams though to help damp ( not isolate) the bumps. I have just ordered a Seat concepts set so we will see.

Just had the fine folks at Seat Concepts build my new seat and non skid seat. Stock seat terrible, SC's seat is awesome, they added
a thicker foam cause I need the padding. Went on a ride yesterday and it is like night and day. My rear thanks me and SC's

Great Product.:applause:

I've got a Concept Seat and still get a sore back side after an hours ride to/from work. Thinking of going the sheep skin cover or air hawk option. I'm about 82 kg so not too large.

Might sound weird, but those of you having butt problems, what pants are you wearing?

I just wear jeans for my commute which is about 30 minutes, no problem there. For longer rides, I've gone over 400 miles in a day on the stock seat wearing these and no real issue.

http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/sport/kevlar+motorcycle+jeans/shift_havoc+pants

I've also worn them on a couple 200 mile days on a stock DRZ seat with out too much discomfort. And that thing is like sitting on a 2x4.

I realize these wouldn't be great for a hardcore dual sport ride, and they get hot in the dead of summer, but having leather in the right places makes for a comfortable ride.

Ok, coming back to this as I'm trying to dial in my CoDR trip's itinerary (still a ton of time). I want to give myself lots of leisure time while on the route, so that means trying to compact the 2500 miles of slab between the end points and home.

How many miles can you reasonably slab out in a day on the SC seat?

I think hours would be the better measurement as some will ride slab at 60 and others at 90. I did about 250 miles about a weeks ago and was on the bike about 8 hours but most of that was on dirt roads bringing my average speed down. I only stood up a few times so it's a pretty remarkable improvement. If your inseam is at least 30" go ahead and get the tall. My ass feels better but the biggest improvement has been the reduced angle of my knees. I've got about a 10 hr ride scheduled for Sat so I'll try to report back afterward.

.....this is what my local Auto Trimmer did for me, very happy with the style and plushness. Sorry about pic quality, if anyone wants better just let me know.

The top has a very fine check pattern, a nice none slip (without being Velcro like) and the sides are smooth. The two styles look real nice and are very functional.

I can highly recommend Dr Trim, the cost was NZ$170.

I just got the Seat Concepts +1 seat. I wanted +2, but couldn't really touch the ground on uneven stuff. So I combined my seat purchase with Touratech adjustable pegs. The seat alone is brilliant. I did two 250 mile trips and wasn't even remotely uncomfortable. I could have doubled that distance without breaking a sweat.

Coupling the seat with the pegs solved the bigger problem, which is seat to peg distance. Simply put, I don't get sore knees anymore. For me, the combo is a complete win.

I ordered a (+2 Tall) yesterday as well! They didn't have the exact options I wanted, so I called them. They are extremely helpful. I got all carbon fiber with red stitching. She said I was right on the border of the weight limits for firmness (I weigh 175lbs.) so she adjusted it slightly to accommodate. I'd suggest giving them a call and explaining your situation.

I just ordered a seat (+2 Tall) now wondering if I should ask for a firmer foam...

I ordered a custom seat on Monday, and on Tuesday I received a shipping notification from UPS. It should be here on Thursday!
