• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Seats

I just received my Seat concepts seat low and what a beautiful piece of work.

Sorry for the crappy dark garage photos but hey it is night and snowing outside.

Before with stock seat and the high dollar Walmart ATV seat pad:

After with the new seat. It is lower and feels great from my big 2 minute sit on in the garage.

It is much flatter so not to push me into the tank and gripper top cover seems nice.

Now if spring would just come I could try it out.

Had a go at my seat today. Wanted a little more height and a bit softer, all my riding is bum in seat.

shaped the base first, got rid of the stupid curve in the step. Also scolloped the sitting bone area.

found a nice high density slab of foam, cut the underside to fit seat contour.

cut a section in the step, this is were my ass ends up

filled this cut out with new foam

glued slab of foam in place and trimmed sides.

glued on some foam at the ends for the transition between new and original foam

blended the end pieces into the contour of the original seat, reduced total height of the new foam by 8mm, scolloped the area for my bum and shaped/rolled the edges

have some thin foam to go over the whole seat to cover/hide joins, think the original cover will still fit - just need to warm it up and stretch it!

Yeah same, I've done 1000kms days on the stock seat and it's ok. i'm 6'1.
I'd like to get a seat concepts but it's just another thing to buy.

Rode the bike with the seat cover off to test the new shaped seat and made a few adjustments before fitting the two covers.

First cover was a thin foam used in car roof linings, it is an open cell foam with a fine cloth weave on top. This foam was used to cover/hide faults in my workmanship and help the top cover to stretch over the seat.

Original cover was warmed up in the sun before stretching over the reshaped seat, happy with the end product, not perfect but achieved what I set out to do - slightly taller and more comfortable.

Maybe it's just me (I'm 6'4), but now that I've used it for a while, I find the stock seat quite comfy.

I'm only 6 foot but I ended up with the tall version of the seat concepts. It wasn't so much my bum hurting as it was my knees from being at such an extreme angle. Unless you have short legs and a really long torso I don't know how you can do it.

A very nice job you've done there Geeza. Is that your first attempt at remoulding a bike seat?
Hi Nev thank you for the feedback, yes that is my first attempt at modifying a seat - I am pretty happy with the results.

Great job on the seat there, Geeza! Very impressed, and I gather there's no requirement for me to act as a mule for you then? ;-)

It certainly is comfy, Charlie.

Now with about 200kms and one leg of 90 mins can safely say this is now one of the more comfortable motorcycle seats I have used. The bad news for folks with duck's disease is that the seat height is raised slightly.

15 months on and I have had another tinker with my seat, on my first attempt I limited the amount of height that I added by using the original seat cover.

Removed the foam from previous attempt and added the first layer.

Top layer shaped. Have moved the widest part of the seat forward a tad.

Bit more shaping, then covered with a gripper vinyl with a similar pattern as the original cover.
