• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SM610 - I Screwed Up

Husqvarna
C Class
Brought a Husky last week, noticed an oil leak on right hand side where oil line is attached via the bolt. Turns out the thread was knackered (someone had over tightened it).. Tried a few things to fix it, oil still pissing over my right boot.

So I figured I would tap it and put a new thread in.. (ive done it before on a triumph daytona) Tapped it no probs, whilst putting the new thread in I managed to break the engine casing trying to squeeze the tool that puts the thread in against the engine casing.

So now the bolt hole is screwed completely and the engine casing needs replacing..

My question is how do I know what engine casings are compatible with my bike ? It's a 2000 SM610, im kinda hoping im not limited to finding the exact same bike.

How can I tell what engine I have ?
I brought the bike thinking it was an SM610. Having looked at the engine and the schematics Im not so sure.. I've had a look through some of the paperwork and it is marked as a TE610e or a TE610e -sm

Can anybody identify it from looking at the engine ? Or do they all look the same ?

bit of a long shot I know :)

That is an e-start 610 motor....your bikes looks like a TE610e from around 2000.

Any TE or SM 610 motor should fit right in there.

A good welder/machinist might be able to weld and repair that case.

Wait... What cracked? The gold side case? Or the inner part (case)? If its the side case (gold) you should have no trouble finding one. It looks the same as my 2009. I would bring it to a welder 1st. Anyway, the reason I ask if its the gold side case, why did you try and tap it? The threads are in the inner case. Either way, you shouldn't have much trouble fixing it.

Thats what I think it is.. Im going to double check with huskysports.. I also thought about having it welded, re drilled and re-tapped. I'll decide when I know exactly what it is and how much cost is. Cheers :)

I would just have it welded and tapped. I had something close to the same thing done you my track bike. It was a hell of a lot easier than splitting the case. Good luck.

Give George a call and explain your dilemma. He's welded stuff up plus his last project bike was a 610 for himself.
