• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So what do you think of my project?

My first real dirt bike was a YZ465. I had a XR75, SL125, XL175 and then...YZ465. Huge learning curve on that one. Since that time I have always loved that motor. I now own a ATK 406, semi modern chassis and old school air cooled workhorse of a 400cc 2st motor. I really like the idea of modern chassis and old school air cooled motor. So... I have been thinking for a long time about acquiring a YZ or IT 465 motor and stuffing it into a modern chassis. Last year a buddy of mine brought a RMZ with a KX500 engine in it out to a local track, was a real cool bike. Got me thinking of this project again which I have thought about over and over for about the last 10 years. Well it is going to happen. Buddy has a complete IT 465 and another buddy just now offered me a 06 RMZ complete bike minus motor for next to nothing. Now I have no excuses.

Hope to have this going in a few months...

That is intertesting.
You are going to have to somehow bend the pipe around to the other side of the engine to catch up with the muffler !
Love those air cooled engines too (not!).

the pipe will be one of the harder parts of the swap, will do what is needed. Hopeing to make it not stick down much for woods riding. have the entire radiator area to work with. Ever ride a good running YZ465? the motor is VERY good.

465 was good....490 sucked....ring dah ding ding ding.....i would rather see a canned ham 280 in there...oops chain on goofy side...

I think it's a pretty cool idea. I'd like to come up with a project like that.
Way back in the day (70s), I built a 4st Honda motor to put in a Maico after its motor went south for my roommate/riding buddy. It was (obviously) before the 4st revival and was a really fun bike to ride in the woods and attention getter.

Can't wait to ride it! hahaha
Me too!
I went from a honda cr250 to a 465g. Loved the motor, hated the handling. I crashed that bike more than any other before or since, but I could pass everyone until i did crash. your project will have the best of both worlds. keep us posted.

keep us posted.

OK, the RMZ will be here tomorrow and I have 2 motors lined up, YZ465 and IT 465. Might get them both.

Buddy dropping the RMZ minus motor off tomorrow. If anyone has a 465 laying around shoot me some quick overall dimensions of the motor if you will. thanks.

I think you are nuts...........but I'm lovin it. The mad scientist thing is fun. keep us up to date.

Yep. Always LOVED that old motor and getting my ATK 406 going again got me reved up. then a RMZ dropped in my lap for almost free and it is on. I'm going to try real hard to have this done in 2-3 months. Should be looping it out by spring time.

And the 465 bolts right into a Blaster quad, and I mean direct bolt in.

Will be putting a PWK on it.

Blasters are death traps with a 200, I think all air cooled big bores can benifit from squish mods, the 465 i raced surged like crazy, and they can suck to start. Might want to talk with RB.

You read my mind. Already on it. Going to have him do the head and PWK. Want to get it going then sort it out but will do that first thing. My Yz465 and a buddies both ran strong and smooth, GRUNTY. People always say "third gear" about those motors because you can put it in third and ride all day. The pipe has me more worried, that will not be fun.
