• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So what do you think of my project?

Pick a IT465 motor up Wednesday evening. this is getting good. Figured the IT motor might be a little less violent for my off road use, wider gears, heavier flywheel, lighting coil. Braaap.

YZ465....... Brings back memories. My mate had a 465, one sick bike for power wheelies. It was a pig to start but not as bad as my old Husky CR500..... Now that was a killer on kick back I can tell you with the left side kick start...my right calf muscle quivers at just the thought of it.

Thanks for sharing your bike build, she should be a real head turner when finished.

Cheers
Glenn

So I got this IT from a guy (freind of a frind) who said he got it from a reputable person that it ran but he had never started it, so i put fresh gas in and the sucker fired up 3rd kick. Wow. Sounds great. Shut it off and pulled the motor.

Motor measured up and looks like it should fit, just barely.

Some fab to do but it's going to happen. Looks mean witht he tank and plastic on, will take more pix tonight.

I traded my it465 to my brother along with my yz 465/490 (490 with a 465 barrel). He might interested in buying your leftovers or trading you the yz motor for the leftovers. you never know when you need another rear fender, often

Look's like an awesome project. :applause:

I had an 81 IT250 & loved it. Buddy of mine invited me to ride his new YZ 465's. He had 2, one setup for flat track racing, the other stock. Just up and down the street on the stock YZ, the front end came up every gear (Without me wanting it to). Sucker scared the crap out of me

some updated pix. will take some work for sure but I'm pretty stoked how it is coming together. Motor is surprisingly narrow and looks slim in the frame. Shifter is in the right place and the kick starter / rear brake lever seems to end up in good spots as well. Have some real cool ideas for it.

Oh, also found out these older steel framed RMZ's have PILES of cheap closeout parts for it. Got a brand new CNC top clamp for fatbars for $20 off eBay, will anodize it red. :D full graphics for $25, complete plastic for $80. it is silly.

Oh, bathroom scales shows 94 rear and 92 front as it sits. Missing the head (3.5 pounds) a carb, airbox, and pipe. I think it is going to end up lighter than i had originally thought. Will weight the motor when i take it back out. If i can keep this under 225-230 I'll be STOKED.

motor is way too high in the early pics, can you remove the fins in the down tube area to roll the motor forward?

That was EXACTLY my first thought. Then I kept looking at it. First it would take major frame mods. Second you would gain almost nothing height wise rolling it forward. The back location is obviously fixed by the swingarm-motor bolt and alignment. Third it just looks high because the sump on a 4 stroke is MUCH deeper. If anything the cradle needs raised. In the end I am going to leave it. Only frame mod is to relocate the cross brace right at the back of the head.

42 rear wheel HP which is good but it is the huge torque that separate these from other 42 hp motors. Yes, wheelie at will. Might be even worse (or better if your demented) in a light short tall bike...

I know the overall height wouldnt change much by rolling forward but all the heavy stuff in the bottom end would drop down, and thats where you gain in the handling department. now i can see the front of the cases is right up against it, no dice. Also, look at WR500 kickers, they might tuck up nicely in your frame with current position.

HAY k ive got a mate with a 92 rm 250 and a 81it 490 motor i have not seen it yet but he told me he had the tank plastic welded so the head would fit and he grafted the front of the it pipe to the back of the rm pipe the pipe come out right at the frame so he cut it out and put a peice of 3in pipe in the frame for the pipe to come through ill have to have a look and get some pics your project sonds pritty cool stay tuned cheers mitch************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************!

So how's the FrankenMonster project progressing?

Getting back on it now. For sure want to have it riding this summer. Bought some nice stuff for it and the plan is all a go. Got the right people lined up to do the pipe and fuel tank. This is going to be fun. Sold two bikes so this one moves up the ladder to getting it to completion.
