• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Super turbo Motard 2010 SMR 510

Exciting build. Please more info!

How much weight will this add to the bike?
Why only 5 lbs boost?
Why did you pick this set up?
How does one do this, what is the process of the build?
What are the little tricks you have found after several builds?
What are we looking at in some of those pics?
What kind of performance gains do you expect?
What other than the turbo and related stuff will you do to the motor? Why and why not?

Just some questions of many that come to mind.

If you are more of the 'loose lips' camp, i get that. Dont mean to be prying, just curious. Ive never built a turbo bike, but ive looked into the idea a few times. I posted on TT a few years ago about turbo Husky but nobody had much to say. For places like baja or dakar i cant help buy wonder if there is a place for a turbo if done right.

If you need turbo bearings, let me know.

Anyway, looking forward to you build. Thanks for taking the time to share. Its inspiring.

I had to replace 6th gear as well. Ive heard of that from a couple others. The gear gets pitted, then weakened. You might want to be in contact with Paul Lima at GP Cycles. He ran the US Motard team for Husky with your bike, and built many a race motor for that effort.

How much weight will this add to the bike? it should actually loose weight because of the weight of the two mufflers, they weigh alot haha
Why only 5 lbs boost? safetly first dont want to melt the piston and a forged je is about 500 for two pistons to have cnc'd, i am running 92 and adding some race gas for right now, all my other turbo builds for the last 11 years have ran on E85 which is a alcohol and reduces the egt levels by like 8 thousand percent haha
Why did you pick this set up? had the bike and turbo absolutly everything i can haha best yet was a purple geo prism ill post pics its awesome...
How does one do this, what is the process of the build? very easy very very easy but you have to know what your doing or get help, if you want to or have any questions let me know :)
What are the little tricks you have found after several builds? take your time, everything has a way of coming together, the turbo has been positioned like 4 times now haha
What are we looking at in some of those pics?
What kind of performance gains do you expect?i dont want more then 10-15 horse extra due to the cast piston and stock bearing but thats next winters project, i think it would be badass with a extended swing arm for hill climbing but id drive it on the street more then that haha
What other than the turbo and related stuff will you do to the motor? Why and why not? bearing, rod and piston next year along with a fuel upgrade, bigger injector, fuel pump and regualtor to run the ethyl alcohol that i run in all my builds5212_525123997081_194001530_31098710_793496_n.jpg5212_525124007061_194001530_31098712_1964997_n.jpgn194001530_31028877_845309.jpg

that geo was fun, stock motor/tranny went through 4 motors finding the sweet spot for power haha ran on E85 had a gt30 turbo and a 75 shot of juice, we built the cage at the race shop i have been working at during the summers.

hahaha nooo well maybe but turbos are like mufflers but idk about thumpers and how its going to sound i am freaking out because i want to start it haha

they are a dot legal offroad tire, dennis kirk has them any local shop will able to order them. Kenda is the brand, ill look for the size when i go out to the garage next. its 15 degrees out but think ill buddle up and get the chain on and finish a couple other things up haha, my soon to be roommate is all about the orange lesser company haha we are going to have a contest who can promote their brand the most in the apartment haha im going to spray a husky label on his Duke haha

cheers for the info i will do some research, and thanks for the help and i came from the orange side....not planning on going back any time soon and haha that will be good, the dukes need a bit of a redesign anyways! ugly things!

There have been a few Turbo projects done over on TT. Once the bugs are worked out and if they do it reasonably conservatively, they seem to work well. This 510 will be a total wheelie monster when this is done.
