• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Suspension set up..

I wish someone had a cartridge kit for our bikes. Something like the Ohlin TTX22 kits.
None of the "Big players" would ever make anything for such a niche bike, be it suspension or exhaust or whatever, unless something from other models that fits. Note that eg Touratech even dumped the things they got in the design phase already (seats). We're left with small niche producers that we convinnce theres a market or one-off items.

Mark. The pistons are where the valves are. They contain leaf washers that control the flow. The left and right piston valves are different and the holes in the inner cyl are at opposite ends so the effect on damping MUST be different. It IS possible that the forks were changed during production. Husky and Italians are notorious ( famous?) for doing that sort of thing, but my forks definitely have rebound both sides and extra COMPRESSION on one side ( left from what I can remember , it was a while ago, but there is a post somewhere on this forum) and that side has ( or SEEMS to have) less rebound. I didn't test the actual values.
It should be possible to just replace the piston valves to change the damping but you need to change it properly. You could just change the leaves but you really need a shock dyno to do it properly. Usually the stock valves in this sort of bike have small orifaces and benefit from replacements with bigger holes and appropiate pistons. I have been meaning to approach Teknik ( australia) about it but I am still up in the air about whether I will use the bike as a road only bike ( it is a Strada) or an adventure bike so won't do that until I decide. I will get an aftermarket rear shock though as I am not inpressed with the construction of the shock itself. It may be Sachs designed but it is Chinese made and looks like a money saving part.
This pic shows the piston ( valved) from one side. It is not a simple ringed block piston but a pass through one

**Greg, thanks for your information. I don't doubt that there's something that can be changed-- my guy didn't seem interested in talking about options, and it is possible that he just didn't want to mess with something different. I can't know that, so it is just speculative. I'll keep up with this thread to find out if anyone else finds a solution.

I have been too busy to run the bike over to Zip Ty. I will try next week, but no promises. Last month was crazy hopefully this month will slow down some.

I will wait and see but I was looking at Konflick Motorsports suspension. He does the shiver fork conversion on the forks and adds a modern style cartridge along with adjustable compression and rebound adjusters. Plus he has a great reputation for setting up suspension.

But isn't it about $1500-$2000? Not saying it's not worth it but that's way out of my price range.

I thought the cartridge kits were going for around $1500. The good part about Konflict is he sets it up for you. I don't know if the cartridge kits are valved specifically for each rider or if it more generic.

If you want to you could fit a ohlins ilx in the rear. I put one in mine. They are built for the automotive side but an ohlins guy can get it set up for you.
You will need too make some adjustments too the linkage.image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Don't suppose we can encourage a bit more of a write up on your suspension improvements? As i seem to recall you successfully switched out the front end also. Might be really helpful to others to get a little more in depth as to the short and long of the challenges involved. Machine work etc, just a thought, nice to see someone moving forward with this. Maybe some more pics as you proceed?

Sure, ill try to write something up for you guys. It will probably take a couple of days. As to suspension setup mine is probably not fit for the "adventure" offroad bike since im building more of a race track oriented bike, but thats mostly a selection of springs and front end travel and such. I have been at the race track twice with it now and it handles really good actually, going there again for two days this week, made some preeload adjustments and shortening the forks about 20mm so we will se how it works out. Ill probably build a supermono bike with it this winter full fairing and new subframe. If i get around to it ill make a build thread.image.jpg

Excellent! I'll be greatly looking forward to any tidbits you care to throw out. I think the TR with the right suspension and little more stopping power and some mild tuning would be a real fun track bike. Curious what your paying for track time your neck of the woods?

Well found out the hard way that even thou i beefed up the brakes alot they need some more beefing. Overheated them and ran straight out of the track, lucky for me there was an escape so i stayed on the wheels. I see dual discs in the future.

A trackday costs about 150usd.

Hansson are those CBR250R ( original one not the current crap one) rims an the Husky? Does the ABS still work with the 17" front?

No thats Ducati 900ss wheels. Thats why the rear wheel is reversed. Dont know if the abs works, havent tried it. I just put the sensor in rear to get a speedo reading.
