  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 250/310 xlite starter issues...

My bike now doesn't e-start before the first ride of the weekend, however, I can kick start it no problem. The button does absolutely nothing, no click, no noise no nothing.

If I kick start it and shut it off after a few seconds, then try the e-start.... it works.

The bike is 4 months old and 800kms... surely the battery isn't bad?!

Any ideas?

Test the battery. If it's bad you'll no pretty quickly.

Can someone upload the VIN numbers that are warrantied under a recall so every can check their bike. My dealer is useless and pretty much won't even help me so I am on my own here.

001 to 262 on VIN are due for recall. My bike is 265 so I have updated parts. Mechanic said I should be trouble free!!

Where does this info re vin numbers and recall come from? My 2012 TE310 vin is 11 letters followed by 000189. Perhaps the reference in the prior post is to the last 3 digits?

I hate to tell you guys but my 2012 TE310 is on its 4th starter fix(2 starter motors,2 starter gear sets,2nd starter clutch, woodruff key)After many emails to Husky customer service, the latest and final fix willbe new camshaft/auto decompressor.
If this doesn t provide any reliable starting then I will part ways with this Italian headache! I think 1 year of repairs is enough.

I d hold off on the suspension Ed.
I have been thru this what fuel are you running? are you using any additives in the fuel? these bikes are sensitive - the exhaust valve clearance needs to be spot on - the clearance can increase preventing the auto de comp from doing its job this then can damage the starter motor, gears and battery if you keep hitting the button? my opinion is the cam should not need replacing. You could have carbon build up on the valve caused by being too rich are poor fuel quality? Get that clearance right before replacing the auto de copmp.

Bike is finally back in the stable after a few weeks waiting for parts. The Repair Order looks promising for my starter clicking and heat related, non starting. Parts replaced as follows:

Water Pump Thermo Switch
under the Bulletin BO45:
Starter Gear Kit
Key for Starter Gear
and assorted gaskets, etc...

This addressed my issues. Time to ride.

Good to hear you got it sorted. I am in your situation now, well sorta. I have a 2012 TE310 manufactured in 01/2012 with a vin ending in 203. I will call the dealer tomorrow to see what my options are. I have only put 3 hours on it so far. Only had it a week. I don't need a potential problem leaving me stuck somewhere. Mine doesn't start easy with the kick. I have yet to successfully kick start it.

I always read people not able to kickstart their bikes. My 2010 txc250 and 2012 tc250 kickstart with no issues.

After 1 year and replacing starter gears, key, battery, starter, starter clutch, Finally Husky replaced camshaft/ auto decompressor and now it seems to start reliably.Dealer said decomp. lobe worn badly and cam timing off by 1 gear.My VIN was 034. I really have no faith in longevity of this bike and will attempt to sell.(2012 TE 310) Fun bike to ride but is it REALLY WORTH IT ****************************************

We have our 11 TXC 250 back together. After inspecting the Fly wheel weight assembly, we determined that the failure must have resulted from using the e-start and kick start simultaneously at the races when dead engine starting. When I attempted to start the bike that way to warm it up for my son, it kicked back hard. This must have spun that spargue clutch and the FW assy together backwards. When hitting the e-start continuosly after that to try to start it, we just made things worse and basically got it stuck together so tightly it was like a weld. We replaced everything (not easy to remove) and for now it starts just fine. No more e-start kick start combos for junior....

Funny, the electric+kick system was the only way I could start my CRF450X when it was cold :)

The dealer called back and claimed there is no recall or any known issues. They claim this info came from husky themselves. I hope I don't end up screwed with issues on my dime. PS I was able to kick start after a few attempts.

My 2 2013 TE310R's have no starter issues so far.1 has 160 miles on it 2. Has 63 miles and im going out to ride it a bunch now and then come home and do my first oil change. serial # on #2 is 00045 so i expect the worse.

Just put both my '12 TE250 and TE310 in the shop for starter issues. The TE250's starter is not working at all. Push the button and nothing happens. It will kickstart however. The TE310 will start when cold, but once it warms up the starter is questionable. Sometimes it does, other times no. We'll see. It should still be under warrenty, so that is a plus.

Is there a recall for sure on the 2013 txc's. Not getting much info from my dealer. They claim the Husky NA phones are down. I do not want to drop off my bike so it sits there for a month

The starter issue is back carbon build up on the exhaust valve the dealer and i ruled out the fuel richness being the cause i noticed the bike using oil but it was not blowing much smoke just a bit when first started approx 250mil in 300km seems alot so now the motor is in bits new rings and valve seals possibly new piston as we think they come as a set? - i had a better run from my yamaha but the husky is more fun. The bike has approx 4200km and 88hrs.

Hopefully a good run from here on.
