  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

No they don't come with the bolt in Oz & they want $17.00 for it to. Its worth about 20cents from Bunnings.

Ooops, sorry price drop. They are now $7.40. Mind you they probably dropped the price after I abused the dealer

not easy to locate. evidently husky only has 3 in stock. talked to driven and they mentioned they plan on making a shifter for the 449/511. although, they have no idea when they will start on it. maybe we should all sign a petition and send to them

my husky has allso an issue with the shift lever and in a year is my second time that i will change it,my friend dealer here in Hellas in Thessaloniki says that is a serius problem, and he said that the solution to this issue is to cut off the shift and to find another outer splin to weld it,i will try to find from what bike i can get one and do the patent.if you someone wanto look for it it will help.

Just happened today for the first time. What a bitch to get to. Who did you order your replacement from? And did it come with a new bolt? Do you have to remove the chain to place the new lever?
Is the 2012 different. I haven't had the bike that long, but no problems so far and the bolt doesn't seem like that big of a deal to get to.

I have the solution for the shift lever for the TE 449,you must buy a shift lever from the TE 450 2010 and weld the spine from the 450 with the shift from the 449 and you will never have a problem again.LEVIES 2.JPGLEVIES.JPG

Been there, done that.
Now I have one lock-tited on good and tight, and carry a backup in my pack with a couple versions of wrench to reach this ill-conceived POS. Hasn't come loose for 2 whole rides now. Feelin'g like I need to be sending Husky a gift basket at this point ...
Still think they should have "off-roadside assistance" where one of their ridiculous engineers has to deal wit this design they were foolish enough to engineer.
Last, I would like to see how anybody fits a lock nuth atop the bolt as there was no room when I tried to fit one in there. Pics, or it didn't happen ...

Here was my post/tirade/rant of a month or so ago.

Ha!
It is sooo wrong to have to go through all this BS just to fix a shift lever. Never would have believed it if I hadn't already lived through it ...

Yes you are right dut think to be in a race and your shift to brake down!!!what it's going to be? any way it's nise to improve things which make's a better riding

I nominate for quote/idea of the year.

Just like Alvsey said, go with a longer screw and a nylock nut. To add to that, close the slotted gap in a vice and cut through the same closed slot with a hacksaw blade. Keep both splines clean and dry on assembly. I had to do this on my sons KX80, hasn't come loose again, after loosening after every ride. Kids do tend to kick the lever down though. A bit annoying to me, it only requires a gentle click and as I point out to him mine has never come loose.
