• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

It was an administrative decision. It was stated it was too much work to maintain seperate classified ads for both groups. So no, it was not put to a member vote

Jim, your partly correct it was Coffee decision to pull the Vintage ads, but it's because of few repeat offenders trying to make a business out of it, not because it was too much work. In fact, i was bought on to moderate those ads. I don't want to speak for Dean but, he's got sponsors paying to be here & others making money off selling parts & on a free ride. I miss them too, but sponsors keep the site going.

So there is disagreement over why it happened. At least John's response was polite. The other was flippant.

I am new, so I don't mind if you guys kick me off. But I'd like to make what I consider to be valid points that should override the "Sponsor" excuse.

The main reason all husky lovers should have a classified of there own is for the furtherance of the Husqvarna Brand. Vintage racing has become extremely popular here in the United States. The American Motorcycle Association started a vintage motocross series just this year. I have gone to some modern races and not seen one Husky, except some people bring a vintage bike for display. They are neat bikes.

We need all the resources we can get to rescue barn finds, craigslist baskets, and ebay junkers. A check of ebay shows that people are breaking these bikes to sell parts, and then scraping what doesn't sell. It is in Husqvarna's and all Husqvarna lovers to keep as many of these bikes alive as possible. A vintage classified is incredibly important for this purpose.

So I don't know which answer is the truth, if it's too much work, or the sponsors are complaining. Either one is a sorry excuse.

I challenge the site Sponsors to come on here and agree that vintage classifieds hurt their business, so they are in favor of keeping them out.

Forgive me for being a little confused but if people can still advertise in the classified adds the 'abusers' can still abuse, not that it will not do them much good though as no one it seems is looking any more.

Look at a bit differently. The rules are or were use the vingage classified section for personal stuff not stuff one gets with the intention of parting out. If folks don't play by the rules closing the sub forum was a choice. The levels of sponsorship probably didn't fit the vingage classified. It didn't seem to make much sense saying it was too much work at the same time RUWFO came on as a moderator. In case you didn't know the vingage classified had the ability to be a thread not just a simple listing like over in the normal classified.

I would like to have it back even if in the simple listing format. Eventually I will decide to liquidate most of my stuff as I have been a diseased hoarder for a long time. I would expect most of the bikes have been parted out by now I bought a lot off ebay back when you could see the real names of the guys you bid against.

What also happened which is quite frustrating is that someone gets a virtually ready to ride bike comes on asks a whole lot about what to do what the minor differnces are between models and then lists it in the classified section. I know I wasted a bunch of effort thinking I was helping.

I was not being flippant. I simply stated the reason that was presented at the time . I even searched back quite a ways before posting that because I would have linked it if I had. I do not recall seeing anything mentioned in that notice saying anything about the people that were buying and selling as a business without being a sponsor.

The reason I could not find that notice is because it was posted in of all places... the Vintage Classifieds that do not currently exist

I agree that buying bikes with the intention of breaking them to make money (or a living) is yukky to those of us who love these bikes. I sold an 86 250CR to a guy from craigslist only to see him break it the following week and resell the parts on craigslist. He had told me he was going to restore it. I was very angry. So I can understand that reason.

About the sponsors. They don't sell used parts. And while they do sell NOS replacement parts... I don't know.... If I needed a part and didn't want to get new, I could always go to ebay. But I can see that if I couldn't find a part on the classified or ebay, I'd have to use a sponsor.

Why were't the offenders just booted from the forum after a warning. I don't think the members should suffer for a few bad apples.

No more from me on this subject.

I really miss the Vintage Classifieds. Found some really good suppliers and parts there. When buying/bidding on fleabay etc. its a real mission and often times the parts are described incorrectly by sellers whom don't know the real models or components like many of us enthusiasts. Here is a sense of community and i dealt with much better confidence and results.

Selling some of my inventory will eventually happen and i'd also like it to go to guys that build and ride these Huskies.

My feelings exactly. I happen to be a "milk truck" era guy that also has a lot of parts accumulated, and this is where I would prefer to sell them off.
When the time comes that is. ;)

Where do I get old crapy parts for my 85 now ????????
Cagiva parts most dealers don't even know wot a cagiva is

I can understand if the decision made by Coffee was because some sellers were abusing the system and upsetting the sponsors. If it is mainly a question of policing it, which does probably take some time, then as I said earlier, is there not an upstanding member of the vintage section that could take on that responsibility. If the answer to that is no, then I guess that is the end of it.

How about this,if you want to sell on the classified's you have to donate $25 to the site..per year.
If you have more than 5 items per month you are deemed a commercial advertiser and need to pony up $150 per year.
