• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What are you doing for tires?

What's the rear tyre like to change nz gravel man? I've done the front, was easy, not looking forward to rear
How you liking the terra?

The rear tyre was not hard to change, I fit all my own tyres myself at home with the same levers I carry on the bike. Good practice, in case I have to do one on the trail. [easier to break the bead than a mongrel DR650]
I have also made an adjustable leg to prop up the bike, that attaches to the bash plate to support the bike for wheel removal.
I'm enjoying the bike, but not doing many km at the moment as still getting over a recent op. Only got 1250km on it so far. I have previously owned an XL600r, GS650, 3 x DR650's & an XT660r. So far this bike & the XT660 would rate the best.

Hey guys,
I changed the tires out on my Terra for an ADVenture ride some of the guys I ride with did up in mtns of Western, N.C. I had looked at all of what was available and being a Metzeler fan from way back , I opted for a set of Karoos, the front works real good and the rear off road shames the Sahara, on road they roar a bit butt that's ok with me I got what I was looking for. The traction in the outback of the mtns was what I needed, not being as good a rider off road as my riding buds, these tires gave me some confidence....might not be for every one but they filled the bill for me.....oh they were supposed to be OEM on a KTM 950

Tkc80s just arrived , I like the Sahara on the tarmac but feel like I'm gonna ass off soon as I hit gravel
Question is ,do the Tkc80s ride nearly as well on the black as the Sahara ?

I used to 'close the side' of TKC's on F800GS so no problems with leaning. Although subject to some shimmy as speed grows (starting @ 120 km/h ~80 miles/h). Abit more careful riding needed on wet. Back tire lasts not too long when ridden lots aggressively on pavement.

:D

What's the tread depth of the Karoo compared to the stocker (in it's new form)? I like the Karoo tread pattern.

These monsters showed up today. Figured I'd do everything I can to keep air in the tires. Going to stick them in the new TKC 80's this weekend. Big enough? Jeez.

I had the same ultra heavy in both tires from montana to utah....they change handling/performance to much for me....went back to HD

I am still running mefo super explorer with 8000 miles on and will likely do 2000 more. They are pricey but seem to be holding up good...1500 miles offroad.

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind. What tires were you running?

Spooned on some Metzeler Karoo 3 front and back on my Terra before I headed to Baja.

Old 6000 mile Sahara on right.
Have done around 3500 miles on the Karoo 3's now, most of it loaded with gear on the freeway, a few hundred miles in gravel, sand and dirt. Will maybe get another 1000 miles out of the rear. Rear tire has plenty of traction, powered me out of some really deep sand in Baja and was actually rather good in the twisties, very sticky, but now has squared of. The 21" front Karoo 3 has probably another 3000 mile life left in it, but I will change it as soon as possible. I can't stand this tire. It is not confidence inspiring. It just wants to fall into corners on blacktop, super sensitive to steering input and has increased the "head weave " on my Terra quite a lot, don't think it is any better than the stock Sahara in the dirt. I will try out the Heidenau K60 Scout next.
