I started with with whatever it recommended in the instructions for the JD unit. If I remember correctly, I added fuel in the yellow and that cured it. I think the torque dip was at around 4k RPM. Then I went to these settings: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/new-fi-tuner-on-my-sm-630.18398/page-4#post-173152 but after my first long freeway ride (about 40 mi) I noticed the bike was sometimes a little hesitant or sputtery. I think it was going into yellow mode to soon so when I would accelerate after cruising for a while it would immediately go to the yellow and be a little sputtery. So I upped the Y/B range so that it would go from green mode to yellow mode at a higher RPM. It helped. I think I went up to 3/4 or 4 on Y/B but not positive. I'll have to go and look at the bike.
I bit the bullet and bought the Leo system. I figured I had better get one before the supply dries up. My FMF from Bill works great, and I like it just fine. But my dream exhaust won't be around forever!
Good job, you are going to love it! Weather it's a TE or SM the benifits of weight alone are worth it, the performance will follow.
I got a pretty good chunk of weight savings with the slipon. But, I always wanted the Leo system. Now that it looks like supplies won't last, I think it was now or never.
I just got my Leo Vince Full Ti fitted and adjusted the Power Surge settings. Acceleration feels much better now from 5500 to 8000 RPMs. With the stock pipe and cans, it felt like the horsepower would hit a wall well before the rev limiter would kick in. Not any more!!! Overall, I would say that I'm really happy with the bike's street performance now. However, the lower RPM torque that you'd expect from a big bore thumper just doesn't come on as strong as it should. I'm hoping to fix that in about two weeks when a TE630 ECU arrives in my mailbox. We'll see...
... and the Twin Arrows (with their ECU) win First Prize! (you can let in more air and fuel and twins provide a better free-flow and let more exhaust gasses pass through). If you don´t believe me, believe the clever designers and Husqvarna who put the twin-Arrow slip-ons in their special parts list. Of course they´re expensive ... but it´s only money!
While it is a nice system, please don't fall into the twin=more flow school of thought. It's a 600cc single. It only produces so much exhaust gas, which a single pipe is more than capable enough of handling. My track bike is a 1000cc I4 with a 4 into 1 system that puts out three times as much power as my 630 and has absolutely no trouble. Most vehicle exhaust systems terminate in a single 2" tailpipe, both V8 and V6 engines. IMO, the Husky/Arrow system is a great exhaust, but designed to mimic the OEM configuration for stylistic reasons, not so much power increases. That's the beauty of the retuned ECU they give you. If Arrow would make a single version of their kit, it'd already be on my bike!!!
Honestly, I have no idea. But, with the bike going away, I'm sure Leo Vince won't see the need to keep churning out exhaust systems.
Well said. On a DS bike, the exhaust system for me has nothing to do with performance, as these bikes don't hold a candle to the literbikes I've had. It's all about weight savings. 17.5 lbs of weight savings is nothing to shake a stick at!
I just took my second ride today after installing a Leo Vince full Ti system. Love It! Scratch what I said previously about the bike's lack of lower RPM torque. There's definitely more torque with the Leo. If I hadn't already ordered a TE630 ECU for my SM, I probably wouldn't even bother now. For the first time since purchasing the bike six months ago, it finally feels like it's performing up to its potential. With 100% objective certainty I can tell you....The front tire comes off the ground noticeable faster and much easier now when clutching-up in second gear. I'm no expert rider. I've been practicing second gear clutch-ups for months now. Before today I would have to get everything exactly right... speed, clutch, throttle, body position.... in order to get decent wheelies. Usually, I'd have to try five or ten times before I'd get everything precisely sorted-out in order to get the front tire up to near the BP. Not any more! The wheelie "window" is now wide open. I really wasn't even giving it much thought today. Plus, I haven't attempted a wheelie in weeks. I just rode, clutch, and Bam!... Wheelie. I even completely screwed-up the timing a few times and still got the front end to come up. What a surprise! Simple, almost effortless clutch-ups. Finally!
Yeah I knew there was more low end torque the first time my tire spun when I didn't expect it to going around a roundabout! Do you feel like the bike is at a lot higher RPM a lot sooner when you twist the throttle than with the stock cans? That's the main difference I felt. And can you explain to me step by step how to clutch it up in second? Like as if you were explaining to a total noob; ie step one be in second gear. step two at xx mph .... Thanks!
What I'm interested to see is if I can tell the difference between my FMF slipon and the Leo system once I get it on there. I'll leave the iBeat settings as they are when I do it.
Yes! That is exactly the first thing I noticed. After installing the Leo I went ripping down the street, 1st thru 4th like I always do to test out changes. It's a short street so I know the timing on my shifts fairly well. I nail the throttle and shift quickly to get up to 4th before I run out of street. On the first run with the Leo I thought, huh? Why am I hearing burbbly tail pipe noises before each shift? Then I looked down at the RPMs... I was bouncing off the rev limiter in 1st thru 3rd! It sure got up to 8500 a lot quicker than before.
Here's a good thread on the subject.... http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showthread.php?102303-wheelies-learning-clutch-vs-power Here's a really good step-by-step clutch-up video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNQC_amZRJg I tend to have the RPMs really low in 2nd gear when I pull in the clutch and twist the throttle. In the video, the RPMs sound significantly higher. Plus, I'm nowhere near as skilled as the guy in the video.
Definitely interested in the info as well. I'm on the fence between the two (since the ebay deal went south) and would love to hear firsthand reviews of both.
