I think legal weed in some form goes on the ballot in 2016 in the show me state, if it passes I'll be growing the skunky stuff.
The medical use of weed is far from new and the benefits well documented thousands of years ago. IMHO Big Pharma is instrumental to squashing as much info as they can as it takes sales away from their highly toxic and addictive opiates. CBT "rick simpson oil" is looking to be nearly a miracle solution for many with seizures.
I would like to say here and now that the title to this post (although very witty) did make me feel a little uncomfortable and maybe to sensitive. I will stand by my stance on cafe husky being no place to promote the use of drugs or alcohol. This thread however is not doing that so my apologies to Motospotz and others. With that being said, let me be the fly in the ointment one more time. Agreed there is medical benefits to weed and one can only hope for a miracle solution. The problem with smoking a joint is that it is done to the point of intoxication. Very few of us ever did half a puff and said okay I Am good. Thus the saying you have to cough to get off. To a normal person (one who is not a addict) you can get high and walk away. An addict like myself, we would just look at you and say what do you mean your done ? we just started. We don't stop until we fade out, pass out or run out. Then we do whatever it takes to get more. So smoking a joint for an addict, bad choice whether it is legal or not.
That's why I love this site so much. Adults voicing their opinion without name calling or hurt feelings. I get so disappointed when I go to other sites & get an attitude when I don't know all the facts about a particular topic. This very civil, educational, & fun site has spoiled me to all others.
From what I have seen people with addictive personalities get addicted to stuff. Most everything can be a bad choice for them as they have no control. Then there are those that can drink or smoke a little and be 100% functional adults. I personally know several people that are highly productive, smart, family people who smoke pot or drink alcohol and have zero issues. Its somewhat like blaming the gun for a killing, in the hands of the wrong people alcohol and drugs are bad. Thats a personal thing and your DNA decides which one you get to be. Like anything in life you can over do it. The people that have addictive personalities are going to get addicted to whatever. I know countless people that can drink a little wine or a beer or two a few times a week, be totally functional and productive, and not addicted or ruled by it. Those same people would treat pot the same way. Some people roll out of bed, light a cig and have to have a cup of coffee before that can even function. Some people are getting drunk at lunch. My point is it seems abuse is connected to the user and not the substance. So in the end that leaves it as a personal choice. If you are a highly addictive personality you have to have the awareness to not start. If you are able to have the self control alcohol and pot can be simple relaxers and social simulants that work fine and have no real down side. Studies show a glass of wine is good for you. Studies are showing pot can have many positive results for various things. Question is are you good at regulating it. Alcohol and prescription pain killers are on my list many times more harmful. Pot does not make you do crazy stuff like alcohol does and fight and cheat etc. It is not crazy addictive and bad for your liver like all this super highly addictive opiates they give out like candy. It is a plant. I am not recommending it but I do feel the need to put it in perspective. Pot is legal here in the NW. I have been to many multi day rides where there is a good party in the evenings after a long days ride. I have several friends that dont drink or drink very little but do smoke a little pot. Its very interesting to watch. Once the margaritas start flowing things get silly. People get loud and belligerent, slurring crap they would never say sober. Get in fights, do rude stuff to girls, and generally act like idiots. We have all seen this anywhere there is a party with alcohol. I left the party kinda early one camp trip. Woke up to find a friend with his foot in a cooler because he had broke his ankle "fire jumping" after to much to drink. The "stoners" sit and watch in horror as the drunks to stupid shit. Yet because there is this stigma about pot people comment on pot smokers and drugs but turn a blind eye to the drunken debauchery. I have seen this scenario over and over. IMHO pot is on a level with caffeine and sugar. Give you a little buzz and is pretty much harmless if done with restraint. Alcohol and pain killers are on a whole other level of bad to me but can also be use successfully it just takes a lot of self control. We have lots of choices to make in life and we are all different. Some will abuse things, some to the point of ruining their lives or aspects of it. Many others will self regulate and can harmlessly have a glass of wine, a beer or a joint and be just fine. Most of us know both types. You simply need to know your limitations and have the self control to regulate whatever you are doing. Its not all that different than riding your bike. Ride to fast and over your head and your going to get hurt. Ride within your means on trails you are comfortable with and you'll have a great time and be relatively safe. I hear heroin and cocaine are uber fun, euphoric and amazing. I also know they are very bad for you and crazy addictive so I have chosen to never do them. Obviously my point is you need to know yourself and your limits and make decisions based on that.
BTW the title of my post is the first sentence of the article, I did not mean it as promoting smoking weed.
Maybe I'm a little sensitive but I'm a little put off by you trying to censor a conversation that for the most part had NOTHING to do with promoting drugs or alcohol (note: you were the first to even bring the strawman of drink into the conversation). Interestingly enough it seems the more YOU bring up the dangers of smoking weed and drinking the more the responses have gone that direction. Not working to plan I guess. I have no dog in this as I don't smoke anything and drink little but as a person who got to see the bones sticking out of his leg after a motorcycle crash the topic is of high interest. Just to be clear my use of the word "high" is not a drug reference.
Well i read it all an the only thing thats stuck is self regulate what goes in and how you deal with it. Cbd awesome bottle it and sell it as prescribed medicine.
chaz995i, Obviously you did not read my post you are quoting. I clearly stated this thread is not promoting drug use. I even apologized for thinking that. Need to get your facts straight. Also I am not trying to censor anything I do not have that kind of power. I have a right to my option same as you. Sorry that offends you. I never had any plan of any kind. Just showing a view from my side of the fence. This thread for me has been educational and thought provoking and I have learned things I never knew, for that I am glad.
uh no the point is you can grow it your yard the idea is to get the gruberment and BIG PHARMA out of the deal
They all love the revenues. I hear one of the best shops in WA is in North Bonneville and owned and run by the Town of North Bonneville! Great for the central Gorge Communities on the north shore. Little Bingen too. From what I hear taxes provide/pad the price almost 50% so lot's of revenue to pay for all kinds of social issues. Responsible adults helping the less fortunate. Now if the Alcohol and Tobacco funds were distributed in this way (if not) the world would be a better place. Live free.... http://www.columbian.com/news/2015/mar/05/gorge-town-north-bonneville-pot-business/
I could not agree more Johnrg, legalize all recreational drugs tax of shit out of it and use the revenue to help educate and rehabilitate the chemical dependent. That way we all win.
The last time I was in Colorado (about 3 weeks ago) I heard an announcement on the local news that a contribution of over one billion dollars was being made to DU (Denver University) for research and the study of weed. In another story.. CO has a cap on the percentage of tax that can be collected and with the massive amount of tax revenue being generated from legalizing weed they are stuck with the problem of giving back the excess. That's not something you hear in other states these days.
thats right if they want 2 band sumpin band tobacco put all those guys to work growin industrial hemp just think of all kool shit we could make from that today
