Old thread but still a live issue. Clearly there are some simple options but if you're going to mess with your suspension IMO it's well worth the money to consult a pro. For what's usually a modest investment you can go lower and improve the performance of shock and forks. They can be customised for your weight, riding style and preferred terrain with changes to spring rate if necessary and valving. I had these guys work over my Fireblade when I got it http://www.promecha.com.au/index.html and it cost all of $600 to transform the handling. It took an Ohlins shock to better the setup. When I'm 'run in' with the Terra I'll take it down there. You should be able to find a similar specialist in the nearest big city. Note: no financial or social interest.
