  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'09 TE 450 - About to purchase, help pls

Typical, only replaced if you moan...:D

You can lift end of cam up, slide old one out and new one in, 20 mins.
RHS front cam (exhaust obviously) ..
Done mine in 09 so canst remember the whole process but was piss easy, no manual needed but if not confident, get a mechanic to do it.
Definitely worth doing, kicking them is a bitch unless yer a big unit with a big of weight behind ya ! :D(not me)

Same, I tried kicking it, but being small, I gave up after a couple of tries... much easier to push the button.

Mine was a 510 but basically same bike only stroked .
65kg soaking wet.
I've gone back to 250's , I did straight after I sold it, best thing I've ever done (suits me better) ....

Great bike for the beach though, plenty of power.

By the sounds, its not that great if you're a big lad, cos you can break things ;)
Oh well, something for me to remember.

I'm 105Kg without gear, so i think i can just rest my boot on it ;)

But i am hearing, i got off a KTM520 to a 250F, was like taking a BMX out in the bush :)

ng.
Ps, hitting water too hard on them sees water go down the spark plug hole and they stall.(just in case you do it and wonder wtf has happened ! :)

Working my way thru this thread, I saw this comment, and offer this video. Spark plug area is hosed down completely with NO ill effects.

I finally determined my bike was dying in hard/deep water crossings due to water entering thru the rear fender or splashed down thru the seat/tank area and getting sucked into the foam air cleaner.

The auto decomp lobe is easy to replace?? Doesn't the bearing have to be removed from the camshaft and a new bearing re-installed after the new lobe is installed?
Not that I remember , lift cam, slide off, slide on or close to that.

Was a few years ago but was stoked at how stupidly easy it was...

Re the water thing, yeah I read that in your thread after I had posted mine but didn't edit it.

Was your filter really wet ? Must have been a heavy force of water to do that in the back end ?

It happened on my 510 and mates 510, we seen water get in there and "assumed" that was the culprit as we used to hit creeks and rivers and they'd die almost instantly as we hit the water hard.

Makes sense.

To replace the ADC lobe ring, the bearing has to be pressed off and a new one pressed on, gonna need a press of some kind.

Well fellas, i hope i never the see the inside of my engine like that****************************************
After 3 x 4-Stroke bikes, all well maintained, the most i have ever had to do is Valve adjustments.
Buying a Husky, i know i might be in for a lot more :(

Didn't use a press, can't remember as I never thought anything of it (I am a diesel fitter to trade, so not a home hack mechanic) but I have pics somewhere I am sure.(goes to look)

Here's a pic from when I done mine, can't find pics when I was pulling it apart but I am sure I documented it somewhere, no puller needed(I don't have one, never have) .

I'll see what else I can find.

From memory(hazy) loosen bearing caps, lift, pull off bearing (bit that I can't remember doing) remove and replace Decomp and reassemble.

I remember a small throw out spring in there too.
Inspect it,Manx if inackered replace.
Get a mechanic if you can't do it yourself.

In fact, it's so hazy(from memory, I would ignore my ramblings....:D

Must have dementia.

Well, bit the bullet and purchased the bike.

Haven't bought Second Hand Bike for years, and what a complete disapointment it is that some people have no idea about Bike Maintenance or even Cleaning a bike properly :(

Spent 3 hours cleaning it and going over it, truth be known, had i known what i know now, i wouldn't have purchased it.

1. Incorrect Bolts used in a few places
2. Black silicon used to cover up holes that hold the Radiator Shrouds on to the tank (where the middle bolts would have gone)
3. General damage that you wonder "how on earth did that even happen?"
4. Back yard mods and slack workmanship.

After spending some time going through the bike, it is in better shape, but needs $500 spent on it.

My first Fuel Injected bike....

Starts amazingly well, No Choke, just starts and idles.
First ride... Mmmm interesting motor.
Huge flat spot off the bottom in every gear (its like a hole), then the mid hits hard-ish, almost like the fuel mixture sorts itself out, then off to the top end which is there, nothing special.
My YZ250F pulls harder off the bottom and faster too. Not sure if its the extra fly wheel weight or what?
And the worst bit, is the noise the thing makes, dam its LOUD!... Have the baffle and spark arrestor out and the tip removed.
Expected it be a little noisy, but not in an annoying way! My YZ250F with a motorcross muffler is much quieter.

Brakes very well, Steers well, its a bit "Rakey", but to be expected coming from a YZ250F.
Feels solid all bearings are tight as a drum.

Will set up Suspension Sag next, New grips, General Ego adjustments, Change Engine Oil and Filter, Get some new bolts and see where that gets me ;)
Actually it may need to Valves doing... Few pops and farts under back pressure.

Happy with the purchase over all, it just needs some TLC to neaten things out and correctly address some poor maintenance issues.

Sounds like it needs fresh fuel and a tune.

Didn't you spot any of that crap when you went to see it ?

I hope you haggled like an Indian telemarketer ?

The sale was a long story.
I did most of it over the phone, then the seller was only available at 7am or after 9pm (he goes to the gym... Geez, i thought he wanted to sell a bike!)

Got there late in the evening, my head was telling me to walk away... But with all the Motard stuff and extras, it seemed an ok deal for $5000Aud.
I'm sure i could sell the Motard stuff for $1200 and the Bike for $4500 without too much effort. Especially after my OCD has been over it.

I do have to get a Kick Start Shaft though...
$300 from shops here in Oz or $157 Aud shipped from Netherlands
http://www.husqyparts.com/en/model/2009/te_450ie_2/oem/9531 Part 51 on this page with $40Euros in freight.

Whats the go to Tune these Fuel Injected bikes? Dealer?
Maybe i better use the Search function :)

Power commander or dealer tune, depends where you live as to whether you have a half decent local dealer or not.
It should go hard, I've had a wr290f with big bore, cams etc etc and my 510 would destroy it and my mates 525 so there's something amiss with the power if you're not thinking it's got much.

You're right though, some folk shouldn't be let near bikes as far as tools are concerned.
You can buy bling bolt kits for $50-$100 and have them all anodised same colour so maybe that's an idea ;)

Steering, I found my 510 steer like a barge(from the rear) big bike, didn't turn well but dropping the triples helped, 450 shouldn't be as bad.

Yep, my KTM520 used to pull right off idle, even if you were on a 40 degree hill :)
I understand this is a 450, but with Fuel Injection, i thought things like "flat spots" would have been a thing of the passed :)

Have a dealer 1hour away, my cousin used to be the mechanic there.
The owner sure knows how to charge though...

The 2010 te250 had a crappy flat spot, fix was an injector and ecu remap or swap.
