  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'09 TE 450 - About to purchase, help pls

Wow, Thank You Kreza.
I would really appreciate that.

I just found this: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/meredith-and-district-motorcycle-club.20540/

I see you are quite involved, we have friends that take their kids to your club.
And my partner was secretary at the Warrnambool MX Club for years.

Is an iBeat the default Husqvarna ECU logging and programming device?
Sorry, i really should Google and do some reading.

I am fairly handy at programming EPROM's and flashing firmware across a few platforms.
Would be great if there was a connection that allowed the Husky to connect to a PC running their loading software, although i have no idea of settings.

My cousin was a mechanic at Road & River in Geelong, he told me they had a tool that let them play with the settings, and it had limits in each area that didn't allow any extreme settings that might damage the engine.

I guess you guys here are all well in the know.... I've only had a Husky 1 day :)

EDIT: I see iBeat might be just that :)

Original / OEM Husqvarna iBeat software
Mikuni FI System Diagnostic Tool

Includes 2 versions / disks (the very first version when EFI came out and the updated v2.1 that was released with the 2010 bikes.
Also included is the users guide, OEM cable that connects bike to computer and also a serial to usb adapter (very few computers have serial connection, so this is a must)
For use with fuel injected models like TE, SM, etc[/QUOTE]

TEiBeatKit.jpg

Lucky i still an old laptop with a Serial Port :)

I see i have a lot of reading to do :(

Some serious systems out there
What ever happened to a carby and good ol river crossing :)

My bike also came with the part below (exhaust sensor) wrapped up in some bubble wrap, the bolt type thing screwed into the hole.
I take it that a standard mod? o2 sensor?

husky3.jpg

It also came with an entire Fuel Pump assembly (my cousin told me there was a recall on some of these?) either that or the guy i bought it off had a pump fail.

I purchased ibeat from semcodesigns off this site, it is a diagnostic tool and allows you to make changes to the efi settings. Not too sure about your year model of bike but mine has 3 different variables for fuel settings. Anyway if you can make it we can plug it in and have a look.

By removing the O2 sensor, the bike goes into a power up or race mode constantly.

The Meredith club is all about the kids and giving them a non competitive environment.

Thanks Kreza, yes i looked up your Club, then my partner told me about our friends that take their kids there. Brilliant concept.
Spoke to my cousin again just before, he said there is uptaded maps for the '09 TE450.
So i am a little confused, is it a one map fits all? or individual tuning based on a particular bike and its mods? Exhaust, Intake etc?
Anyway... its all learning, looks like i have heaps to learn.

Here is the bike after its initial clean up yesterday, still more to go.... Time to order a few genuine parts next and maybe a bolt set :)

How about using more imagination for your avatar's guys ? I ride bikes to get away from it all. Was hoping to get some good info on our thumpers in this thread and now have to look at anus, vulva and greasy butt cheeks. Just saying man, no offence but grow up. If you must there are tons of free porn sites out there you can access if you need to rub one out.

No one is forcing you to read my threads, or any content you find "Not to your taste"
Personally, i thought the info was in the posts, NOT the Avatars.
Go to Profile and turn Avartars OFF if you don't like it.

Did you have something "on topic" to offer, or is it just a bit of trolling?
Was an "On-Topic" and clean thread until you had to add your personal views.

Now back on topic.

I have to say, after owning my first Husky for a short while, i have never in 25 years owned a bike that needs so many fixes and suffers so many failures.

Bolts shaking out
Plastic bolt retainers that fail
A Battery that is not restrained
A Kick starter shaft that breaks
Coolant hoses that can burst

I hope it rides well when i finish going over it :)

Don't forget to take off and check the nylon Y pipe joiner under lhs side of tank, it melts inside and reduces flow, it also fails....sorry to give you more things to look at, my te510 taught me lots about bikes....:D

Ah yeah been done, all good ! :) tick off list !:)

Wiring along lhs of head stock, gets nipped and won't start, check wires are good, clean and out of way of any nipping potential metal parts.

Ps, nice avatar, butt (pun intended) not showing much imagination.....you could at least use a pic of a husky engine cos no ones ever don that before :D

Saw that you upgraded the plastic fitting for the uptite Y one, smart move. If your riding in some pretty hot terrain like I do on my 2009 te510 you should look into the impeller upgrade. 2010 they upgraded the impeller and when you get a new one and compare it to the stock 2009 one you'll see why. I run engine ice in mine, and with the impeller and Y upgrade she runs cherry, almost 4,000 miles and no issues, aside from leaky seals. I change the oil every 3 rides usually, motorex. This is all just my two cents, good luck.

Leaky seals... OMG, what else on these bikes fails.
Thank God they are KTM's now.

Thanks 85KTM500, it is winter where i am, over night temps on 6 degrees C and Day temps of 15 degrees C.
Wow, the last big bore 4 stroke i had was 2000 KTM520, never had a single issue with it, seems 10 years on and things have got more fragile.
Oh well, appreciate the heads up fellas, always nice to know what to look out for :)

Not to sound like a damp squib but a 520/525 is a better bike.

The forks leak and could do with a machining inside to rid them of a lip(afaicr) .
Mine leaked, I gotta admit, I had engine ice, fan on a switch and I miss my te510 like a hole in the head.

I love my te250r, goes like a cut snake and handles well.
I also love the wr450f, reliable as a rock and my first choice every time I think of a big bore.

Yeah, i have an older '02 YZ250F, it has done 3 Alpine High Country rides, plus 2 years of "Pony Express" races, and dozens of dozens of local bush rides. The thing still looks brand new, hasn't used any parts, gets ridden like i stole it, plus i'm 100Kg... And at the end of the day, i can pick it up like a push bike.

I am already struggling just moving the TE450 in the workshop.
My main interest in this bike is to Motard it and compare it to my road bike.
But i am looking forward to some single trail riding and maybe the odd group ride.

I was actually off to buy another road bike, when i saw the Husky.
I think my choice for another dedicated dirt bike would be a Berg 450 70degree engine or new KTM500 or another modern 250F.

Ok, got a bit more time to spend sorting out the '09 TE450
Starting to reassemble her after some seat off, tank off, covers off cleaning and checking.
Have a few issues, maybe some of you have some good advice :)

Fitting of the Seat
My seat doesn't seem to locate correctly, the tank end is ok, the 2 black plastic retainers forward of the air filter are ok, but it seems to be kept high by the battery?? Hence the tail clip works, but it flex's the seat and the rear supports don't contacts the frame.

Are there any issues with the size of the Motobatt Batteries?
I know its not the OEM Battery, it is super strong, bike starts in a blink!
Perhaps it is too tall? I have never seen the OEM, so i am not sure.
The previous owner has fitted some rubber type stuff to the Battery (as shown) and also under the seat, which is only adding to the problem of the seat fitting correctly.

Here is the gap between the seat and frame supports

I take it this is the OEM Battery? (found on eBay)

Found this in Workshop Manual

Seems the MotoBatt might be a big tall

Headlight Wiring
Is there a preferred way to keep everything neat?
Self amalgamating tape? Or just re-do with a better electrical tape?
Are there brackets for the horn? Or that meant to be mounted lower around the radiator somewhere?

It's a dogs breakfast at the moment, it is my next area to clean up.
God some people are sloppy with their bikes.

SEL1 Fail, SEL2
That is the visual display each time the bile is started.
I take it that is normal when the O2 sensor has been removed? Just reverts to "Power Up" mode?
Is it possible to run 2 Maps for this bike when the O2 Sensor has been removed and you are just using the OEM ECU?
Like a "Full Power" mode and "Fuel Efficient" Mode for transport sections?

From what I remember on mine, the stock battery does contact the seat it helps it from not moving around. if you look under the seat there is a kind of "V" where the top of the battery locates itself in. You are probably right that the rubber on top of the battery is lifting it slightly. Was probably put there to stop noise/rubbing. The MBTZ7S should fit fine normally. If its a bit short, then put something under the base of the battery in the battery cradle to lift it.

I had one of these (220CCA) in my te450 before it got stolen...

http://www.hollyhockbatteries.com.au/LH5L_BS.html

And have one in my 511 now also.

As for the horn, the bracket should have been part of the horn assembly unless it was removed, and bolted straight onto the radiator brackets. I tucked mine in behind the headlight (there should be just enough cable length) to get a little more airflow into the radiators.

Mine would also do the SEL1/SEL2 thing, never got to look into it but the bike still rode fine. More than likely a bad connection issue somewhere. Usually showed when it was wet.

I have heard of guys putting a bar mounted switch which back to the power up plug, I don't even think I had the plug installed on mine, and had plenty of power. 70-80Km/tank with a mixture of single trail and open fast stuff. With non stock front and rear sprockets to lower the gearing (stock was shit in the bush).
