• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1978 390 Auto build

I was hoping to find new parts, I guess its not an option, I am in Canada I been looking around here but nothing so far

The 80/90 is waay to thick. The HVI26 is almost like water, looks like used water and smells like .....
It is no more expensive to buy than a good quality engine oil for a modern road bike. Just that you have to buy it in 20 litre drums.

man that thing sounds gooood was that really the 1st attempt that was crazy guess all i heard about those Electrexs must be spot on mine should be hear today or Monday :applause::banana: now can you fix that headlight  [real dim at low speed] dang i got a bit of a chubby bet that bike will be a hoot:love: it

Not sure why it is so dim ? The reflector may not help. The reflective chrome fell off, so I painted it silver. I will put one of the other ones on to see if it is any better. The only issue I had was after starting it (yes, it really did go first time) the petcock didn't seem to flow any fuel. Ran it up again, and it used it's float bowl full and stopped. No fuel coming from the tap in either on or reserve. It did eventually flow enough to run it again. I will investigate over the weekend.

Yes Michel, 4 o'clock, and yes, I did bunk off work early as it is "Poets" day.

That is awesome, I raced a 78 Auto a couple times in the early 80's. The only issues we had over time were the clutches, Eric's in Southern California was our go to guy for this bike and always helped us. Good job on the rebuild.

love the sound****************************************! can't wait to get my ready, good job on the husky looks good and also thanks for all the info to get parts for my husky****************************************

I do not know the definitive answer. But going with Husqvarna logic, I would say no. Their R&D department recommended it for a reason, the Swedish military still use it, so there has to be a reason.
Parts for the gearbox are getting expensive and hard to find, so if it were me I would stick with the Univis HVI26.

On the up side, mine is booked in for it's MOT (British ministry of transport road worthiness test) on Saturday. This is a pre-cursor to having it road registered here in the UK.

Todays down side .... I fitted two titanium engine mounting bolts this evening .... and managed to snap one :( Trying to get them tight enough is a pain. I may just stick with steel or stainless.

The first test is looming on the 15th March. We have an enduro practice day. What can go wrong ......
