• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1978 390 Auto build

The new Lectron is fitted. New reeds and inlet rubber from HVA. There was a small issue with the throttle cable as supplied with the carb, but that was soon rectified by replacing the inner. Just need to get a new clip to fasten the air box to the carb rubber.

Also got around to finishing the wiring. All tested and seems to be working fine. The new (old) bulb holder arrived a couple days ago (thanks Wade). The only issue I had was wiping the dirt from my original chrome reflector ! ! ! .... it came off ! Damn. I nearly used the reflector that came in the light with the bulb holder. But decided to re-paint with some silver spray. Two coats of silver followed by two of clear. We will see if it lasts. I do not intend to ride it at night .... but sometimes it has to be done.
New front mudguard decals from Marty (perfect).

geez oh man! between the fresh auto transmission and the lectron that thing is going to be smoooooth. have you run a lectron before?

So this is where we are at. Air filter fitted, forks filled with oil and a few other bits done before SWMBO got home with the kids.
Hopefully the 20 litres of Mobil HVI26 will be with me tomorrow. The only thing I have not done yet is to swill the tank out with fuel to get rid of any illegal immigrants. I have not even checked to see if it leaks. I am sure it will be fine
I did sit it back on the floor just so I could sit on it. The back end feels a bit stiffer than it did before we rebuilt the shocks. But I guess they will need a bit of bedding in and some of the "newness" wearing off before I can tell.

All in all ..... a cracking weekend :)

Darin, I am in awe of you doing 6. It has taken me 12 months to get this far with just one.
It's me that needs you here.

The oil has arrived today :)
A quick nut and bolt check and some fresh fuel ....... I am going to have to contain my excitement !

Certainly will Steve. We run a few twin shock green lane days down here, so I will let you know when the next one is.
I will see you Saturday morning.

Your bike looks great grouty! A video of the first attempt to start would be great entertainment. We're watching.........:D

I will sort the GoPro for the first attempt. I reckon that the things going through my mind will be #1 "did I set the timing right ?" #2 "If I didn't, is A&E still open ?"
"Is the engagement dog really disconnected when I go to start it ?" ...... if it isn't refer to #2

I still think I need some lighter springs on the rear. So that will be my mission this week.

The rear springs are a bit too stiff ! There is no static sag at all. They are 8mm wire dia ones from a 81 KTM495/250
Does anyone know the two spring rates for the 390 ? I weigh about 180 Lbs (82 Kg) kitted and ready to ride. I want it on the softer side for enduro's. I am guessing I would need a wire dia of 6mm, but what rate for the main and pre-load springs ?

I managed about 1/2 hour tonight. Filled the gearbox with oil, and checked that the drive engagement lever was working in the dis-engagement position !
Hmm ... seems as if the second hand cable I have is a teeny bit stretched even if it does look mint. If I engage the lever it still turns the back wheel with "vigour". If I force the the gearbox forward by about 8mm or so it disengages correctly when I move the kick lever. So the cable is now off and will be sent to Venhill tomorrow with a "make the inner shorter by 1/2" note.

I like to check these things ! Good job too

hi, I have a 77 husky 360 auto and I am having trouble finding the engagement gear and shaft, any Idea where I can find them, thanks.

Dave Pratt had one on ebay when I looked a couple of days ago. He goes by the title of 'Tritrophy' on ebay.
I take it by 'shaft' you mean the vertical one that goes from the top of the box with the lever down to the main shaft. The engagement gears are also available new. Check the end of your mainshaft also. Mine was so badly worn I had to replace that too. No big deal providing you have access to a press.
