• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2014 Husky 501 test

I used to swap with my dad. I had a yz250f and he had a 520sx. I had just upgraded from a xr250 and his bike scared the crap out of me lol. The front end was really light too, the 520 felt lighter while it was moving. Atleast now I'm smart enough to not hop on big bores and act like their 250's :). All the mags talk about how the 449 is tractor like like old 4 strokes and after spending a ton of time on it, I love it. They can keep that hard hitting 450 and give me the torque monster that hides my shortcomings :)

I find the 511 kinda splitting the old school tractor motors and new school CFR type motors perfectly. Snappy but not to much and tractor like but more eager. I really like the power spread on that 449/511 and find it a really nice balance.

With the same rolling chassis, footpegs, handlebars, clutch, brakes and switchblocks, it’s little wonder the cockpit of the new-generation Husqvarnas feels very similar to the Husabergs whose identity they ‘stole’. Same goes for the motocross bikes, relative to their KTM counterparts. Out on the trail, however, Husqvarna’s enduro models have a significantly different feel. The revised settings in the 4CS fork create a firmer ride, much like the front-end on KTM’s up-specced Six-Days special models. The new Huskys’ 4CS fork sits up better in its stroke and has more bottoming resistance, but it remains plush and deflection-free over small bumps. The rear-end of the enduro machines also has a different feel. Compared with their no-linkage, PDS-equipped Husaberg forebears, Husqvarna’s TE and FE models are a little plusher in the first part of the stroke, but retain a very progressive action. The rear-ends squat a little more than the PDS system under acceleration (meaning you can afford to stay forward in the cockpit and still get good traction). The linkage also seems to keep the rear-end more planted and stable through a series of choppy braking bumps, and reduces the chain slap so that a no-linkage set-up often produces.

Are you sure? Looking at the parts fiche for 2014 KTM 500XCW and 2014 Husqvarna FE501, the crank, rod and piston are the same pn between the 2 bikes. The Husaberg FE501 has a different pn. Maybe the KTM got the updated parts as well?

No, you're right, they updated the 500 exc this year with the 501's engine. The difference is the throttle body and the exc has the SAS emissions.

2014 Husqvarna FE501 = $13,495.00 AUD

Where else but Australia...

Probably useless info but here are couple conversions of your AUD to pesos and USD at todays' exchange rates... Might be funny to look at these numbers in a few yrs ...

Thanks Russ and I certainly hope these bikes have the transmission ratios ~everyone here wants and that new, bigger tank ~everyone here as always wanted :) ... All will be well on the Husky homefront if these 2 items have been addressed ...

The TC449 is 238lbs. and maybe that is what Kelly was remembering for weight. The dry weight of the TE511 is 255.7, but it has that 12lb can silencer on it, so if you were to use the same silencer as the 501's, the bikes would be pretty close to identical in overall weight, but different as far as centralized weight. I like the 501, yes. We do have one here at Zipty. It is very similar to the FC450, but the 450 is more like the TC449 MX and the 501 is more like the 511. I think DBM will have a good write up on it, I'm excited to read it. :)

Would be interested in your opinion on how the 449/511 compare to the 501 and 450

US pricing released... $9899 Still a Princely sum for a dirt bike.

Yes I realize the AU price is more. Still I think I will need to be in another tax bracket before I drop 10K on a new bike. Heck I recently find myself liking the 02-04 bikes again.

Can't disagree... US retail prices for Italian Huskys, were always lower than anywhere else in the World.
