• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

83 CR500, here begineth the lesson

Joe, don't mess around with that old carb. If it's been there for 30 years it's about time it was filed under "R". I changed mine 9 years ago as I could'nt get the jetting to remain stable. New carb, job done. With the amount of time and money you have invested it is just a no brainer.
You will be surprised at the instant results.

Nice ebay find. You thinking of coming racing with us next year then ???????

I put the ebay link on in the hope that some else sees it so I don't have to buy it. Its just lurking there with just 'Husqvarna' in the title with some one wondering why not many people are watching it. might have to buy it but haven't worked out the justification yet. I do have a spare KTM motor that I could sell if I had to though .......

Yes, me to dukkman. I love the attention to detail & the home made bits. Im waiting to see / hear this thing start!

Well, I've ordered the carb with all standard jets for a 430. The last ones float needle and jet and slide all bad condition when I looked closely. I still got a horrible feeling about the crank seal on the drive side. I would be gutted if its the reason for it not starting proper but I guess it I'll just strip and fix it  . The carb I think is a good investment and neatly takes my credit card right to the limit. I'll post the little bits of finishing I'm doing but I am a touch impatient myself. With age I have learnt to try to not rush things, I do still amaze myself with my stupidity sometimes which Is why I won't be too surprised if I put the crank case seal in the wrong way just beacause I couldn't wait to check !

It started last night real easy ! Then some guy tried to sabotage it but I spotted him in the crowd at the race track and managed to plant the front wheel right in his chest at 40mph. I folded up the bike and Howard Cunningham from Happy Days hid me from the police in the back of his station wagon.
Beginning to worry about my mental health a little, I'm sure there are better things to be dreaming about....

Chain guide looks nice but isn't that going to make one hell of a racket when you're on the move with the chain links rubbing on the aluminium?

You're right, I thought that, gonna see how much it flexes at that point when it runs (****************************************!) and line it with something if it needs it. Its a lot closer to the rear sprocket than standard so expecting mostly up and down flex.

Other than your new finely crafted piece looking 10X better than stock, why would you expect any more or less noise than the steel unless it is narrower than stock?

Steel original sits further forward, with fat 17" rim the chain guide has had to move back towards the sprocket to clear the rim. Its about the same width as standard but expecting less side to side play. Hoping for no noise.
Carb is here, pick up from PO in the morning. If it doesn't kick this weekend I'll be getting the wife to tow it, with the clutch stuck from rebuild I may be joining her at speed in the front seats of the car if it starts !

You know you can free the clutch plates with a screwdriver through the oil filler hole.
Learn't that one on this forum.:)

Very much hoping to free it by revving and banging it into gear with the front brake on ! Or when it hits the back of the wifes car !

Had a TY250 which I sold to some knob.
Told him that the clutch was very sticky but no he had to rev it and slam it into first :banghead::doh:
Put a big dint in my water tank.

Well.........................................what happened then?
Well my friend, first thing this morning the shiny thing happened, then the work thing happened, now the beer thing is happening. Tomorrow on the other hand I hope will involve minimal kicking and swearing. Keep you posted !

Yep, I find increasing the main jet size by at least ten fold on a friday night helps with the beer flow. I am thinking of developing a fuel injection system for Tribute (just for friday nights). Red wine needs only a 500 main.
Keep going Joe. You'll be there soon.
