• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any sightings yet?

[/QThe SM might have 15/42 vs the TE have 15/45. The articles previously quoted tend to suggest that is the case, they thought the SM was lugging through towns, the TE not. Also outside tire diameter must be figured into the calculation. So I think one must keep the SM/TE distinction clear here (unless they are infact the same?)

The TE that I rode at BMP was greared 15/42.

I guess with all that new found horsepower, they figured they could knock a few teeth off each model and raise the top speed. Ought to be very impressive with 15/46 or so. But still need to get the 1st gear minimum speed down more for trail double duty. Or at least an autoclutch for the 610/630 like the little squirt bikes enjoy :).

I went over to Tasky's this morning and they had 2 TE630s left on the floor. Took a good look while I was there, though since I have a 610 already that works great, the TE250 got most of my attention :-).

Looks like to change to a single exhaust you would have to change out most of the header pipe also (aft of the twin header junction) as hte split is a solid welded section.

Tested the seat for a while. It was soft to the point of spongy and you could almost slide off one side or the other. Did not bottom out. 10 minutes on it and no pain (yet). Looks like a lot easier access to the valves, the coolant hosing has much better access and the whole area is less crowded. An '09 TE450 was sitting next to it and the engine area look almost identical (cylinder, cooling, water pump, head area). Easier access to the cam chain auto adjuster also (unless I am remembering the TE450 here instead- I think they are the same though).

Bars seem lower and narrower to me than my stock '07 7/8 bars. I am 6'1" and 33-34 inseam. I can sit on it and flat foot with a very slight bend in my knees so it is a tad lower than my '07, but not much. It had less sag for my weight so with that set properly, it would feel like it is 1" lower.

Here's mine, sitting at Hall's waiting to ship. As you can see, it has some goodies already installed:

So it looks like a Husky skid plate? I need to get one, but haven't found it available yet.
Watch out for the license frame. Mine broke already, just from vibration. Luckily my brother was behind me and saw it fall off, so I didn't lose my plate.

I'm going to strip the smog canister off as soon as the bike is in my driveway. What size plug do I need for the line running into the engine? I'd like to have the parts on hand to do it, if possible.

What else do I need to get rid of the canister?

I got a goodie box from Hall's today. It included paperwork, a t-shirt, the keys, the tool kit, some reflectors that were taken off, and this thing:

What the heck is that?

He didn't send the owner's manual, or I'd chime in on various things, like the maintenance schedule.

I stopped at South Sound Motorcycles in Tacoma, WA today to look at the TE 630 in all its splendor. I asked abouth the gearing just to see if they changed that from the 610. Steve looked up the information on his on-line resources and here is what the TE 630 is running:

Primary ratio 2.34 (32/75)
1st 2.615
2nd 1.812
3rd 1.350
4th 1.091
5th 0.916
6th 0.769
