• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Automatic registration

Obviously this is past the registry of who owns what by now.

Below for first gear clutch drum and shoes, the one on the crankshaft.

The blade and fork are one way 360 and 390 and the other way 420, 500, 430. I am pretty sure the engagement mechanism changes at this point. I am talking about how the shoe attaches to the center.

The shoes are bronze or similar with ridges at a slight angle 360.390,420 and smooth and magnetic for the ones with the starting pawls, 500. 430.

The drum is smooth inside for the bronze shoes and has a spiral cut into it for the 500,430. The shoes clearly have been drilled to achieve some balance.

Hi Michael,

You can add me to your list,

1982 420 AXC which I've had from new.... This bike was stolen from my garage in the 90's, recovered about a year later but totally trashed, it's on my 'to do' list when I've got rid of a lot of other projects.

1982 420 AE I bought this one when it was just six months old. The first owner couldn't get to grips with it at all, he was trying to use it for MX so I was very happy to take it off him to compliment my AXC bike. It was registered as well so a definite bonus and was always my fall back bike when doing tight gnarly woods. It's the bike pictured and last used in Sept 2016 at a local Hill Climb event.

1984 500 AE Purchased from a friend of mine who had to give up riding because of a dodgy knee, it's the 3rd one I've owned but it has to be said I much prefer the 4 speed 420's.

1986 430 AE. This one is another project bike, pretty much all there and maybe get around to it one day, or will sell. I've got this one because I had the first one in the country back in the day, it was the importers Demo bike and probably not looked after properly and back then I didn't have the time to be spannering all week to race on a Sunday so it got swapped for a 6 speed 400.

My two original 420's are going to stay with me for as long as I have the will to ride them but the 500 and 430 are for sale if anyone is interested in owning one of these fine pieces of Swedish engineering.image.jpeg
