Apples and Oranges me amigo. 449/511 are very worthy dual sports, as you point out. The BETA is "not as composed on the street" as you put it. I agree.
The BETA RR bikes are race bikes, with a very very very close range of RS 'street legal race bikes'. Like the stuff we all loved from Husky 450/510 a few years past. BETA doesnt make a dual sport bike to match with the 449/511 (or 610/630). (although in Europe they do have a line of smaller dual sports)
So comparing a 450 BETA with a 449 Husky is always going to be a stretch or at least an odd match up. They are focused on two different market niches.
Compare a 450 BETA with a 450 KTM or Yamaha or Honda or Sherco, etc. The street legal aspect of the BETA is simply to ride into town and get gas or food, or to link up one trail with another. Its not meant to be ridden long stretches on the street. The 449/511 on the other hand are much more comfortable riding to work everyday and then doing some trail work on a weekend jaunt.
I would race a stock off the shelf BETA 450 with a horn and license plate dangling off the rear. I would not race a stock off the shelf 50 state legal Husky 449 (if they still made them...).
BETAs arent for everyone. But they are a good choice for guys with 3-10 year old Huskys that are getting long in the tooth. Guys with 450/510 and 250/300 bikes. And thats exactly what i put in the original post. These are not perfect replacements for 449/511 bikes, as Ride has pointed out. But they are great replacements for our older 450/510 250/300 bikes.
The only place i see Husky and BETA neck and neck is the TXC310 vs. the BETA 350. Thats a bike test i would love to see.
Nice to hear from other BETA guys. Lets see some pics?
