• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Fork seal replacement

hi to france motoduc 84 !
have look post "post up

(husqvarna 125 WR 1982 europe!)

35mm forks in 1982? weird , i thought by that time all Husky s had 40mm, 125 Husky always were special.
If you want i'll buy those fork seals , & yeah, i kind of make a mess on my garage floor too when i did my 2 weeks ago LOL.

Husky John

This bike was stock, hadn't even been ridden much, so the stock forks are there. John, that's not necessary, but thanks for the offer. Your step-by-step guide was well worth the price of the Kaw seals!

Don't skimp, buy new seals. I found a $5 piece of pipe notched with a dremel, measured to 20 inches with a hole at the top to slide a tool through to keep it from turning works well for holding the damper rod. Not sure what the bozo that ownd my bike first used.....

Adam, what are the dimensions of the damper holding tool that you fabricated? Diameter of the pipe, width of notch, etc.

The outside diameter is 34mm and the inside diameter is about 26mm. The notch measures 20mm wide and depth of notch is 4mm. Total length is 520mm. Note that at this lenght, forks must be compressed otherwise you will not be able to hold the tool.

ive found it helps to use the tool to just hold em while you use a lil 3/8"impact to turn the bolt. you dont want to use the tool to do the loosening...

I had a friend make the tool but the compress and hit with the impact wrench technique worked perfectly. Thanks for this thread!

On the Kawasaki Eliminator fork seals... they say they are 38mm. Is that ok for 40mm fork tubes. I'm guessing the 2mm difference is the wiper part of the seal but I just want to confirm. Thanks!

Yes , Kawasaki Eliminator fork seals , are what you want, been using them for years...

Before I go installing these... the difference in size is ok?

Yes , your only installing one per fork leg, NOT the two like most Husky have stock, so there's room.

just clarifying the reassembly. be sure to compress the tubes to full compression ( no springs) then do up the damper holding bolts in the bottom of the slider. this ensures the damper cone and rod are centred in the fork. then reassemble springs oil caps etc.
there are not many husky damper rods that don't have binding marks from the fork tube rubbing on them....

Nope. Kawi seals did not work. 38mm ID. Couldn't get the tube to go in without damaging the seal or bending the spring. Guess I order the correct double seals.

You got the wrong year Kawi seal then, cause I've used them a bunch of times, on my 40mm husky forks...

I have to order another set soon, let me see if I still have the kawi p/n somewhere...
