• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Yay! Finally!! A turn.

Shortly after that we came across two locals trying to unstuck a ancient ford from beach sand.
PC301526.jpg

I "volunteered" to be the the director of the film. I shot a video thinking it would be cool to show the guys setting this guy free. It was a LONG video.
Every time the guy would put it in gear, the engine would die. So basically the guys pushed this truck, in sand, about 20 feet, one foot at a time.
PC301527.jpg

Mike turned prophet and said "the battery (pant) has (pant) to (pant) die (gasp) soon" and like on cue the engine stopped turning so we left the guy with his bud to figure it out.

We stopped in a small fishing village, and all of the local kids came out to check us out. You could tell gringo's don't get down this way too often.

Or maybe they do and usually need gas

Anyway from this point all the way south to Todos Santos, the Kids were all excited to see us. It was really neat how parents/siblings would get little kids' attention point us out and then the kids would light up & smile and the parents would smile and wave at us. It's hard to explain, but VERY cool.

We did sort of look like a synchronized moto team of some sort I guess

Next we came to a not dry lake. This was easy and FUN!! but also VERY hairy. I had a couple moments where the bike would just suddenly turn sideways on me.

NorcalSlowpoke, hauling BentAero's Kolpin tank.

I didn't realize it at the time, but this moisture was a sign of things to come!

I don't know if xymotic had one, but I didn't. I feel that having one would have made it a fair amount less work for me.

Unless you've set your computer up as a server, your link seems to be local and won't work...

Have to use a Photo server like smug mug or ???

Or if you have a Mobil Me account you can link from there.

looked like everyone, except for x1 had stock gas tanks is that right?

Septic, Yossarian and I all did, I think we all had 08 610's. There were a couple moment's but if you carry a litre or 2 so it's all good. Pretty sure the 310 had the smallest range, 50 mi or so.

The road turned, and instantly we had different terrain again.

We descended into a small valley and then we were treated with a decent water crossing. BentAero Charged Across while Mike supervises
PC301553.jpg

20 Minutes later we went through a neat little village and then had to cross again. This time Norcalslowpoke (mike Kay in back) got a little kodak kourage and hammed it up a bit:lol:

PC301558.jpg

He got a little saturated
PC301559.jpg

Yossarian blasted through as well.
PC301565.jpg

BentAero was so quick I didn't even get the splash, but then his front lurched on a rock and he had a little pucker moment. Then he Wheelied up the hill but my poor little camera kain't shoot that quick!!!

Right after the village we came upon a semi-permanent Army checkpoint.

We got a little Gasolina at the local market.

I was wrong earlier when I said BentAero roosted Septic, it happened here and I just missed the pic. Here's septic straigtening out after BentAero fed him a little sand. FUNNY SH*T Wrong, but funny!

We stopped at a small surfer hangout, for lunch

The place had everything!
DSCI0171.JPG

The owner was a bit grumpy though
DSCI0172.JPG

Seriously they had everything, cold beer, good food, Satellite TV on the plasma tv, Broadband internet, They had a brand new Mac Laptop to use for email, the owner was a photog with a 5d camera, and a hot waitress.
They must sell a LOT of burritos
PC301582.jpg

Did I mention good food? It was weird, it seemed like 'something else' paid for the toys, but I suppose that gringo surfers paid for all of this, if it was a front they certainly took the fake business seriously and they were good at it.
PC301585.jpg

The pictures do not do this poor girl justice, she was smoking hot!

This is one of my favorite pics of the whole trip, Mike is really trying hard to 'not stare'

Surprisingly, the little engine that could had great range. One tank (1.9 gal) it ran out at 71 miles, another at 75 miles (39+ mpg). If I had known it would get such good fuel economy, I wouldn't have brought that friggin' Kolpin can.

Xymotic, your photos in post #514 are from Scorpion Bay. Does the town go by two different names?

This is one of my favorite shots I took. It's at an old ruins of a mining operation that Mike took me to just south of the Bahia de Los Angeles. (Sorry guys, the rest of you missed it -it was off the course just a little way) Old buildings, cactus, mountains, and a bike. :)
