• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Cool looking tires! What are they? Do you like them? Looks like you are ready to do some flat-trackin'!

WoodsChick

Those are Maxxis motard tires. The bike does everything, and it's going to go flat tracking once I get the dead magneto sorted. It's a pretty trick bike, it's just kinda ugly. It's going to get more trick, since I'll probably take it road racing in the open singles class in the local racing club, too. I have commuted on it, taken it motard racing, and blasted around on forest roads so far. Eventually, it's going to go all over the place, since I picked up a set of dirt sized wheels, too.

I own four bikes, and this one is as close to the perfect bike as you can get. I even managed to scrounge up a 5 gallon desert tank for it for longer trips. It even has a fairly low hour Uptite rebuild. I think it's pretty comfortable on top of everything else. It's just ugly for now. Eventually, it's going to look as great as it is.

Apple Valley checkin in.

My '08 610 out on a trail that just opened for the season yesterday. I neglected to bring a real camera though. I really like the HDB guards. The folding mirrors are really nice.

I noticed a lot of your bikes have the red Husky sticker on the front fender. My 08 didn't come with one, are they something you've added or do some come with it and some don't? :excuseme:

Mine came with it

If you scroll back a few posts to my pic, you'll also see one on the BD headlight. I found a eBay seller from Greece that makes them. They are a little smaller than the one on the fender. Also, from what I understand, replacement plastics don't come with decals. Did you or a previous owner replace the fender?

Thanks for the link, I'll probably order one of those stickers.

I don't really know the full history of my bike but I bought it at a Yamaha-Suzuki-Can Am dealer near my house, and it only had 25 miles on it. Their story was that the guy who bought it new decided to go in a totally different direction and traded in the Husky and a Yamaha TW200 for a cruiser. It did have a broken turn signal and emissions canister when I first looked at it which they fixed before delivery to me. Their story was that the guy brought the Husky and the Yammie in the back of a minivan when he traded them in and that's when the damage occurred, but perhaps there was more damage and they had already replaced the front fender. I guess I'll never know for sure but I got a hell of a deal on a barely used bike. :applause:

Spent some time in the NV/OR desert over the Memorial Day week...

That tank looks like the hamule "Cleate" has on his.

I think you are now, Supertankerchick

Funny you should mention that, Palmer; This is Eric draining some of my fuel for his tank-of-a-bike LC4...:D

Are you carrying a spare gas can on your rear rack too WoodsChick? :D

Yep, I sure am. The distances are vast in the desert. With the 5gal tank and a 1gal can on the back I can go about 240 miles. This particular overnight trip was about 200 miles and I ended up sharing some of my fuel with Eric. We usually have the exact same range (he has a 5gal tank, too) but he was jetted kinda weird and was not getting good mileage. A quick re-jet before the next outing proved to be the ticket.

Range is everything on trips like these. You can never have enough fuel...unless you're on fire, of course :)

I ought to put together a ride report...

That's awesome, over here where we're allowed to ride in the Northeast I could probably get away with a 1 gallon tank. I wish I had a need for that much fuel!
