• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Post up pictures of your vintage Husqvarna bikes!

neighbor comes over yesterday...parks this in my garage as i'm elbows deep into servicing my 125 and says "have fun!" and walks out and hops in a ryder truck.... aint see him since, went over to his pad, nothing's in his house...I think he moved!

time to start pulling some numbers and clearing a spot on the bench for a teardown. it allegedly ran before it got parked- don't they all. got no clue as to what size, class or history on it...it got parked as i was closing up for the night. feels like it has some compression though as i stroked the starter once with my hand.
came with an xtra tank that said something "cross" on it i think. this one's older than any i've had so...think it might be an early 70's 250? pipe, muffler good cond. frame looks ok at first glance. actually might be a runner with some attention...

well- here we go again! joy! ......

i think. ;)

Lucky you! I think it's a later model than early 70s. At least the tank is off something later.

yeper- the other tank is more roundeded...is that a word? guess it is now. lol. phone bat got low before i could get more pics. i'll get more pics and some #'s and maybe some of us can help me identify it.

ooo- 900 posts!

jeez, i talk too much.

gotta feeling it's a 71' ish judging from the square head and round case cover. i'll get some numbers and stuff and post back with more info.

Cool!

It looks like you got a 400 Cross, pre 1972 RH shift. Someone has modified the rear frame for a "laydown" shock conversion. Check the numbers but it looks you just got a "On Any Sunday" bike. If your going to restore you should be able to find a replacement frame. I have a 72 CR 250 that had been modified for laydowns also. The bent handlebar and broken front fender is probably from the rear suspension modification. Shortened wheelbase and stock front forks made is squirrelly! Great find!

thanks! ah- interesting. yeh, right shifter kinda caught my eye too..as in ok, how long has it been again? :p

intersting note on the frame mod. it did look a little odd wheeling it in. is it just me or is the steering angle awful steep? can i reverse the mod with some welding/adding a mount to lower it? not sure if im gonna restore it. not sure if the owner is coming back for it either so...rather clean it up with some paint, plastics, seat cover and make it a runner on the cheap if it's salvageable for the most part. be a fun cruiser for the dez and stuff on turkey day weekends and what-not.

ok- after going through 18 pages of pics here i've got a pretty good idea of whats missing and what to get and how i'm going to approach this project when i attack it.
i'll check back in when it's rip-ready. (stocking up on MUD FLAPS now)

mostly, thanks to all the members here for the wonderful pics of restrored bikes. countless hours of love and the TONS of cubic $ invested that make this thread a fantastic visual referance manual with historical significance. i for one appreciate your efforts and the insight it gave me.

thanks guys.

update:

neighbor came by: his house was getting carpets cleaned, furniture was in the gargage, so the husky came over as he needed the room.

but- i gave him the option of fixing her up and thanks to the resources here and all your input on many threads and pics i gave him a very detailed list of options and stuff to do and....looks like i got another side job to make some tire/gas money.

Cafe Husky- your one stop source for all things Husky.

Here it is guys, the bike of my dreams. I fondly remember watching the 'grown-ups' riding these bikes when I was still putzing on my Honda 50. Man those were the days! I'm the second owner, it's been here in Anchorage Alaska the whole 30 years. Just ordered $500 in parts to get it safe to ride next summer. Engine is solid, exhaust needs some welding, frame is straight, chain system is shot, shocks need rebuilding badly.. I bought the reseal kit for the ohlins.... should I even try this by myself? I'm a 20 year aircraft mechanic... with a gnarly set of tools, I just don't want to break anything. After looking at Moody's machine, I'm jealous! Thanks for having an awesome forum guys.

My 1986 400 XCE

After about 18 mounths of rebuilding the bike is better than new. Last weekend I rode it on the first long offroad excursion in the Sam Houston National Forest just north of Houston. 35 miles total and a pretty good shake down.
