• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Thermostat Delete

OK, making it in 3 pieces would be much easier.

The price is very reasonable for the effort involved to make it.

I wish there was a similar item that simply replaced the plastic OEM part that retains a thermostat.

Zipty unit looks well machined, but somewhat over complex for what it has to do

Haven't installed mine yet, it looks too pretty to hide in the radiator.
Thank you. It was the last part I created for Husqvarna. Major controversy over it and was in part what developed to my eventual absence from ZipTy.

The last sales manager purposely hiked the sell price of the unit without my knowledge or agreement, and killed the thermodelete sales. Then used the poor sales against me to gain control over my product development. This led to the eventual downfall of Zipty and my absence.

How sad

That sux rocks, damn I hate that sort of company politics.

I'm sorry to hear that.

This product is for the Terra/Strada/G650/800 and other BMW motorcycles where the thermostat is built into the radiator and restricts flow even when fully open.

The idea of the thermostat is actually to stop water flow thru' the thermostat & force it to flow thru' both halves of the radiator

That thermostat will fail and shut off the coolant completely, you won't even see the rise in temperature on your meter. Even when it's open, it restricts too much flow. The radiator works perfectly without that unreliable part.

Thanks for the updates Tinken. Given what you have said, what would be the best way to go about purchasing one of the deletes?

Yea, sorry about that, pretty embarrassing really. That's something I can no longer control. I had customers throwing money at me for these deletes and ZipTy wouldn't send them out.

Not really!

Thermostat in a TR650 can only fail in the open position as it works against a spring to be closed. It cannot shut off the coolant flow completely.
When open the coolant flows across the Thermostat and straight back out of the radiator instead of going round it.
With thermostat problems, you will see a rise in the temperature on the meter (bar gauge) as it is fed from the sensor on the engine block, which will of course heat up and the Red Warnng light will also be activated.

Like I said in the other thread, go ahead and pull your thermostat out and inspect to see how it really works. I have had many of them apart and they do not function as intended.

Mark - I agree if the Thermostat fails in the open position (cold) then the motor could overheat, the dash bars will show it, also I understand the ecu has an alarm setting which would show on the dash

If the thermostat fails in the closed position (hot) the motor will run cooler, the condition might not even be noticed
