• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey all,

I finally had some time yesterday to put together a formal introduction, better late than never.

My meat space name is Jake Metteer. Somehow out of that I got my user name, creative eh?

I live in Woodland, WA, grew up here, left for 5 years to the mighty metropolis of Vancouver, WA and moved back after getting sick of my stuff being stolen.
I am 30 years old and have been happily married for just about 11 years now, her not so much :smirk: Really she is great, puts up with my crap and me being gone most weekends riding somewhere. We have no kids, not planning on having any... EVER. :busted:

We do have two ankle biters though, they are trained in UCF so watch out.

I stare at a computer all day doing CAD/CNC programming work in for a company that makes store fixtures, been here for almost 10 years. Not the best gig but it pays the bills and leaves weekends open for riding.

I have been riding since I was 5 years old. The first bike I rode by myself was a Honda CT70 that same day my dad brought home a Honda MR50 for me...

From then on if it had gas in it I was riding it. Over the years I worked through a bunch of XR,XL,TL Honda's and whatever my Dad found in the paper that was too good of a deal to pass up. Fortunately for me and my brother, Dad was (still is) a compulsive shopper so we always had bikes to ride. They were never the fancy motocross models we wanted but we still rode them like they were.

My current bikes are...
2008 Husky TXC250, The latest addition to the collection it is one heck of a great do it all bike. 300 kit in the future??? maybe.
461782470_TpM3q-M.jpg

2002 Sherco 2.9, I picked this up last year and rode the intermediate class in most of the local COTA events. This year I moved to the Advanced class, it is much more challenging but not quite scary challenging like the Expert and Champ classes. Trials is good fun!

2003 Yamaha WR250f, my first run at a modern 4 stroke and it has never let me down. It does everything well enough but doesn't really excel at anything so it has dropped in rank to the buddy bike for now, just about anybody can ride it.
391834597_wQCEy-M.jpg

2004 V-Strom 650. My first ever "new" bike, from 2002-2006 I rode primarily street then I rode to Alaska... 7000 miles in 14 days cured my street fix... Day rides just aren't the same after that. The V-Strom now gets used for commuting and taking up space in the garage.

1989 Honda Transalp. My first real street bike, my brother bought it when I was 17 and he didn't really ride it much so I did... Eventually I bought it from him and rode the crap out of it until I had an unfortunate meeting with a guard rail in 2004. Being a somewhat rare bike, parts were not easy to find so a week later I bought the V-Strom. I spent the next year finding parts to piece it back together. Now it is the Frankenalp...

My other hobbies are computers and photography, neither of which I am much good at but I enjoy trying and there is always something new to learn so that keeps me interested.

Enough about me...

Hello
My road racing buddy and I just found/bought a pair of "not ridden in awhile" 250 WR's, one 72 and a 82. We hope to bring them back to life and try some AHRMA CC events.

I rode Huskies "back in the day" and had a series of open class 2 strokes before finishing up with a 510 4 stroke, which I regret selling.

Dang.. I have to follow up an intro like that? :banghead:

Been riding for....ooooo... 16 years now, recently converted to a dirt rider. Currently have a DRZ400e, but am looking for something with a little more power and a 6th gear. For now, just browsing and looking for info on the Eyetalian motorbikes y'all be riding.

Thanks

Later,

Wow! Quite the introduction for someone that already has 108 posts:lol:

So, what the heck is going on with that TransAlp?? Wild looking bike you've got there! Honda was way ahead of their time trying to sell that thing here in the US. I worked at a Honda dealership in `89 and folks would come in and look at the TA and the NX line and just kinda shake their heads. Nowadays they would sell like hotcakes!

My husband Eric and I are blissfully child-free as well. It aint a bad way to go, let me tell ya:D

Oh, and welcome to CafeHusky, jmetteer:lol:

WoodsChick

Thanks! :D

The Transalp has a 6.6 gallon African Twin tank and cut up stock shrouds to kinda match. NX650 front forks, triple clamps, and wheel. For a the few years (2002-2004) before we started getting the good bikes (v-stroms, ktm950, etc.) the Transalps were selling for crazy amounts, well over what they sold for new. Low mile models went for 5-6k it was really crazy for a bit. I think prices are back down closer to reality. Ahead of their time for sure.

Here it is post crash, a car in my lane, me going too fast and a white line painted over gravel ended my ride early that day...

My brother had a NX650 that he liked better than the Transalp, that is why he didn't ride it. The NX was a better hooligan bike, I liked going places so the Transalp worked better for me.

Dad bought and sold a near perfect NX250 a couple years back, another really cool bike he should have kept.

Hi all! I am Nathan, i live in Colorado Springs and have just purchased an 09 TE510. I'm super stoked about it, my first dirt toy was a Husky TC450, then i moved onto a Yamaha WR450, and now I have (in my opinion) the best bike out there. I will be picking it up this weekend or next weekend. I cant wait to get out there on her. I come from 9 years of riding sportbikes, I have an RC51 trackbike in the stable as well as a Raptor 700. Boy do I love my toys! Anyway, just wanted to say hi, so....

HI!

new husky rider

Wow! I am excited about this site. I have always been a KTM guy but my brother and I went in on very clean 02 WR360 just today. Looking forward to riding it.

New to the forum. I've mostly ridden Honda's, but I'm hoping a Husky SM or DS will be in my future. Thought this place would be worth checking out...
