As some of you may know, we got unheard-of snow flurries in San Francisco last night and all the surrounding peaks are covered in snow. The Mendo NF got hammered, and according to the NOAA website there was about 4" of snow in the staging area where our campground is located. The staging area is in the bottom of a valley and all the trails are at higher elevations so I can only guess as to their conditions right now. I'm keeping a close eye on the snow situation and we plan on heading out there possibly next weekend and for sure the weekend prior to the ride. I will keep y'all updated and if necessary we can push this ride into April or May. Keep your fingers crossed for warm sunny conditions in the next few weeks! [IMG]

That would be me as long as there are gun sights emblazoned on everything.

Of course I have a much more pleasing profile.

Ok, so I finally got some good news from the ranger at the work center today[IMG] She said the snow level is up to about 4500' now and is melting quite nicely. Eric and I are going to do some recon work this weekend and see what the place looks like after all the snow. I am anticipating a good weekend, albeit rather wet, and even better conditions for our ride in just under 3 weeks! I also got word that I do, indeed, have Fri through Monday off so if anyone is planning on arriving early and/or leaving late I will be there [IMG]

I can't wait to ride my WR again! I miss it, even though I decided this past weekend that my 610 is my most favoritest bike ever! Ride report to follow [IMG]

Wow! Eric and I put in about 100 miles this weekend at Stonyford, trying to see how much is still under snow. We never rode the same trail twice and only got turned around by snow on some northern exposure trails on the western-most side of the area. Snow is, indeed, at about 4500' in some places, and about 5000' in others. It isn't very deep, and we were able to plow through a lot of it, but some of it was impossible to get through going uphill on trials tires. It was raining steady when we left, and not very cold, which is helping our cause. Anyway, this is what it looks like there right now...

It is looking like I wont make it down to this. Nancy is taking the motorhome to SoCal that weekend and I have the pickup torn apart in the shop. Unless the stars align just right over the next two weeks you can count me out.

Yeah I am out as well. Dealing with some heath issues with my mom and dad and just to much stuff up in the air right now. Looks fun though.

I've never been to Stony. I hear it's pretty tough stuff, except for the fire roads. I'm at the point where I can handle every blue I've come across at Hollister, but the blacks are troublesome still. So I'm basically a notch above newbie. I'm also recovering from some kind of strained tendon (achilles maybe?) in my foot. Add in that I cannot mount my bike without a step and I can barely touch ground when I'm on it. Go figure... 5'11" and 280lbs and I still can barely touch on one of the lowest seat heights available for current models.

Anyways, I'm thinking there may not be much for me to ride there. Although I could scout fire roads for future trips up there on my 800GS. And I love the camping out and hanging by the campfire part. The not sleeping well in the tent part... not so much. But I'm willing to suffer that.

    Sure there is :)

I went this last weekend too, and I let Woodschick and hubby do their own thing, while I had my own sorts of fun.

Looking up from camp, the tiny green specks above the snow are 10-15 meter pine trees.

On top of one of the many mountains is a lake. Anyone here like to fish? ;)

Lots of snow higher up.. and it was snowing quite hard.
