  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE449 Power up?

I am sorry for that and I don't have anything bad to say about Yamaha, made a living wrenching them way back...
They all have their issues, the 511 has really been great, and I am not a brand goof, it is just perfect for me,

don't see all the options in the UK to add the map 3's, seems very little choice in the UK, though I do get the impression that the bikes are a little different uk spec

I said something like this someplace else today....

The need to adapt new technology EFI to real world conditions is a learning curve.

Once we left iBeat land the learning curve accelerated..from 2011 forward..
First - JD box allowed dumping an extra layer of fuel and made it adjustable at set RPM ranges...this make a big difference.
Second - PCV allowed complete map adjustment (theve been selling these things for years on street bikes) at bit higher price and more complexlity
Third - Husqvarna branched California Green Sticker and Red Sticker models which seems to have made the 2012 and 13 bikes better behaved.
Fourth - Zip-Ty has spread the word on the BMW #3 map set so those of us who were satisfied with that JD box now have a new, cheaper and better option, available at at least some dealers. Those of you who arent early adopters get the advantage of jumping over the first steps and get to stand on the shoulders of those of us who started tinkering early

While this thread is very interesting, no one has stepped up to relay a comparison from what we've all been doing to the TE449/511 the last couple years (JD/FMF) to this new BMW #3. Anyone? I, for one, would love to know what to expect if I remove my JD and reflash the ECU with BMW #3.

Haven't had a flame-out since my ecu upgrade, knock on wood. and with my breather bottles being shipped out next week, the 449 is finally a solid platform.

So if we upload map 3, then we do not the JD tuner? Or do we still need to run both. My motor is stock with the jumper in and FMF slip on.

I suggest you try the ecu reload first. Then you can choose if the JD is necessary afterwards.

Agree. Reports are the remap to open exhaust works very well as is. The JD would let you add or subtract from that map if you wanted it to do other things.

Anyone in Australia had the BMW#3 map loaded?? Anyone know of a dealer over here that can do it?

One of he guys mentioned R&D updated his ecu when he had his SMR last serviced, give Stefan a call and see what he says. Then let us know what he says :p
