  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449 / 511 recap and info

Argh, the damn thing flames out too easy. Climbing logs and really tight cornering in 1st is a nightmare. Just as you give a little pump on the throttle at low
revs it just stalls. And in cornering when leaning a ground contact is close.
I've fitted the Akra and the power loop, + disambled the CO2 sensor. The starter pinches, I have to release startbutton and hit it again sometimes. 4hrs in total. Just keep riding and see if it's getting smoother?

Where are the killer deals? I want to join the club. I saw Bills in Salem, OR had a 2014 TE511 for $6500. I missed the 2013 TE511 with 10 miles on fleabay for.............$5700********************************************************************************! Because I asked about shipping before hitting the buy it now button. Yes I have learned my lesson. :banghead:

I think Bills just got some in or is getting some soon. May be worth paying a little extra going with them since they're near by and set there bikes up right. Not to mention they are the kind of people you go to for great service from what I've read here. Not saying the other dealer isn't great too, just far away

Thanks. I just checked Bills web site and no mention of any more new stock. :( Looking for a more dirt oriented DS bike and 2008 - 2011 used bikes going for 5-6K so a new TE511 for $6500 is a no brainer. I need to get on the list for the next shipment.

Call and check with Bill, preliminary info on the next shipment may be able to tell you what is coming.

As for the almost new units (my TXC449 w lights is at Bills for instance), you are likely to get additional goodies that dont come on the stock bike. Add $4-500 to the price of a new one to bring it to "well set up". Tuner/Mapping, seat, gearing, pipe, bags, tires, suspension (TXCs are upgraded stock from TE) etc.

I want something that will be street legal. That is what I like about the TE. I am not even considering racing......just doing some dirt roads and occasional single track, so I am sure the stock bike has way more potential than I have skill.
But......that is a good price on the TXC511 and it should not be too hard to make it street legal.

In some states the trick is to get it plated when new....converting an Off-Road Title to Highway can be impossible many places. This is why I only have 1 plated...I didnt do it when new and now it would best be done by going to another state like WA where they have a program for converting dirt to street registration. On the other hand, the 449 is all done :-)

Just wanted to pop in and say I still love my redheaded bastard. Fun versatile bike that just keeps taking a beating and asking for more. the ZipTy suspension and ECU upgrade made it even better and it is a really fun bike to spend the day on. Plus as you can see it still has the horn on it so I can get the pesky KTM and Bergs out of the way when i come through. he he he

I'll take a XXL in white and one in black please ;)

I really can't wait to get one. I find myself looking at other bikes from time to time and then I see a picture of a 449 and I picture all the cool rides I did on it. I get excited about that bike over and over, everything else I dream of is a nice second bike :)

Thanks for this Tinken. My local dealer suggested I check in here because they're new to the Husky world too. I'm hoping I understand correctly even after you've been through this a few times. I'm hoping I can just make a jumper and try plugging it in to my 2011 txc 449. Wish me luck. I have no problem with being locked out of reflashing options. (for now)

Best bet for the txc 449's is the powercommander 5's.

I found that the jumper is already in so I'm happy for now. I removed my O2 sensor and plugged the hole. It runs great. I head out into the rain tomorrow for a ride at higher elevations. A powercommander 5 is on my wish list for now. Thanks again.

Alright, now with soon 30hrs runtime things seems to loosen up a bit. After installed the PowerCommander and downloaded ZipTy´s racemaps I´ve spend some time to configurate these map´s to fit my ride style. The issue I had was the flame outs at low (idle) revs when rearwheel hits some obsticle. A big improvement is now done trough 14/51 sprockets and the mapping set with a bit leaner fuel on low revs (approx. -2%) and 10 - 12 degrees retard timing on ignition.
I´ve done some Swedish Enduro races now, and next thing on the wishlist is a EFM autoclutch to correct the drivers error by braking stop.
Another issue is it still won´t always start at the first cranks. I missed the start at this weekends big race (Ränneslättsloppet with ~2000 riders). But that can happen to any EFI-bike!?
Otherwise the engine delivers a truckload full of power all over the register.

Great ride yesterday in wet, cool weather. Bike runs perfectly with a noticeable bump in power in low and mid revs after plugging O2 off with jump wire plugged in. I had to ease my tendency to add a ton of throttle as I approached the exit of a turn. The front (and rear) now loosens and slides in 2nd and third much more than before. No crashes though and a ton of fun. I can now stay closer to my son's cr250.

Fuel pump has to charge up to the proper pressure. I do this by slightly touching the starter button enough to turn the pump on. After that, my engine starts with the first crank.
