  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Post up pictures of your vintage Husqvarna bikes!

Almost done....

Few little bits and pieces to go. Anyone know how to get MXM decals to stick to plastics??? :D:D

Fatboycrash,
Are you interested in offloading that alloy tank 1st pictured? If so, send me a PM.

A bike like this makes me examine details for ideas I can use. Would like to see other side of bike too.
Are my eyes not seeing things right, or is the throttle cable stuck onto the Mikuni fuel inlet? Early April fools?
Steve

I like the cable operated choke also..nice. I think the fuel line is curling around the cable. Steve aren't you suppose to be still doing inventory?

Well I finally got a day off work and hooked up with a few buddies for a day out riding. Was a shake down run for my new 1981 430 XC and other than a flat tire all was stellar. I am a very happy Huskymaniac!

The pics are from Peg leg just an hour north of Vancouver. It is right on the Fraser River. Great place for a first time out. My buddy Jeff had never been on a dirt bike but is a good street rider and his day ended with a $400.00 bill for wrecking a RM250. I kept telling him......I got a flat tire! How I laughed at him. Somehow I am now responsible for his throwing away a bike three times. He even crashed my Mini Trail 50 that I had brought along for another buddy to try out. Maybe dirty biking is not for him.

Overall a great day out. Will be spending today (another day off, so far anyway) fixing the flat rear tire. I may have spun it but I suspect a flat.

KSI/Husqvarna

The story goes you all probably Know of Allen Greenwood off KSI fame he built the KSI using the Honda XL350 Engine which Marty Moats rode . Then when he saw the new in 87 the Husqvarna 510 engine he thought he could build a GP winning bike using that engine he spoke with Rolf Tibblin to be team manager and Phil Larson to be a rider they needed to work on the engine a little so they enlisted the help of Nigel bowers of NEB fame (they make gear box and other parts for BSA, Norton and titanium con rods.to do some work they stroked the crank to 78 from 76.5 but just as they got things organised Cagiva brought Husqvarna so the whole project was shelved . As each bike cost £10,000 in 1987 no more where produced.
I hope to get the con rod which is a NEB titanium one , NEB has re bushed it they still had the bearing's and bushes for the con rod:applause:.
Here is a press photo of 1 off the 3 built.
Miles Webb who made the frames ( his company is Faber frames) still had the photo's from when they done the press launch.
The main things that where changed in the motor at that time are titanium con rod.stainless valves, and a aircraft ally clutch basket also the big end pin is 31mm nearly as big as a Honda crf 450 .

I look at this thread almost every day, hoping for another shot of somebody's bike. So then I think... hey... maybe I should put one up?
Not sure if I've posted this, but here's my next project.
Pic #3 - dead bee INSIDE fuel filter. How DOES that happen?

Pick,
Yes, I too always check this thread for a new scoot. Heck, I even go back thru this thread to look at the bikes that are out there. Now I get to look at your new 500 too. I should say THE ORIGINAL 500. The one that started it all. Sweet bike**************************************** Whats the plan for it?
Rick

I think just a good "actually gonna ride it" rebuild. Not sure if it's gonna be 4-speed or 6-speed, probably not gonna run the monster 44mm Mikuni, will do my usual suspension mods...

'98 TC610, This is the bike Gordon Ward rode in the 4-St. Nat'ls and a couple of AMA 500 Nat'ls. in their comeback year after not importing bikes in '97. Bike still has the AMA inspection tag on frame.

Gordon Ward still races all the time at Glen Helen. He laps me in every race I'm in quite easily. Always very courteous when going by me at warp speed and picks clean safe lines to go around.

He is on a different bike pretty much every time and seems to race every race of every class for the day and only gets faster as the day wears on.

What is the story of how you ended up with the bike?

He was supported through Uptite. I bought it at the end of the season from George.
I raced it a few times in D-37 GP's, but it's mostly sat all these years. The 4-speed tranny is very limiting.....not much use for it off a track, and by today's standards.....not much fun to ride on a track anymore.
