  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 511 caught Fire ... Fueltank position ?

Gonna be hard, it takes Zip Ty a week to sort out the emails before you can get it sent.
They are looking at fixing the webstore freight issues, then us international customers will be sweet.

Maybe we need to set up a local agency....
The constant Zipty bashing in and out of private messages is getting old. And if your emails to our shipping department are anything like your previous pm's, it's no wonder they don't respond. In any event, I have upgraded the shipping.

The faulty fuel tank cap is a known issue. It's an easy fix and there is no excuse for not having changed right away. This doesn't make the rest of the bike a failure, in fact, this bike is still unique and state of the art. There are few other bikes on the market today with the same features and reliability.

Nice bash Ray, as usual. And no, you don't "gotta say it" (especially as it just happened to a CH member). Its not the bike even though you wish to think it is. Youtube bike fire and watch for days. Just keep blindly bashing a bike you dont know anything about nor have probably ever seen. Brilliant.

Whats with the constant personal bashing of members?
I've seen many dirt bike fires over the last 40 years. I couldn't count how many. I can however begin to count how many times I have seen the same "as usual" bashing of "rayray".
I didn't see anything really wrong with his post. The direct bashing-- Just a personal thing I guess? Again taking things out of context seems to me to be the only thing "as usual".
People have opinions, likes and dislikes. Whats so wrong with that??:excuseme:

well i didn't bash around.. Well so far , i still like the bike. Yes i had my moments and probably do have them again . Sometimes in the Mud it is annoying when you want to open the Fuel Cap and have to clean it all out first. I am not someone who talks the bike down or the Italo huskys. I stand up for them a lot here in Melbourne area.
And yes thanks to Zip ty , there are at least some aftermarket products for this Bike.

The 511 without a Butterfly hammers and with a bit a Suspension Setup you get quite a good bike.

i might go for a smoker soon , maybe i find someone who wants to Swap a TE511 for a good WR300...

I tried to bite my tongue but my fingers over rode my brain. For me it is and accumulation of posts from Ray bashing the BMW designed bikes and the 449/511 which he has never even seen on top of the back handed comments about the USA and how F-ed up we are. I'm tired of it and it has offended people in several threads. Personnel bashing. Here someone had a traumatic experience with their bike catching on fire and his response is to tell him its his crap bike. I found it insensitive to the situation and off base as literally hundreds of bikes (cars too) from all designs have caught on fire before the 449/511 was ever built. This is the only 449/511 I have ever seen pics of burning. there was zero need to take it there. I'm sure the owner feels bad enough already. I believe because of the accumulation of these remarks from this member about two things I love (USA and 449/511) I am hyper sensitive to his comments. I will try and refrain from reacting but ask that he refrain from bashing a bike he knows nothing about and the country I live in.

Ever since the butterfly removal fiasco there has been obvious tension between you two. That aside in several PMs he has sent me he is frustrated he cant seem to buy stuff from ZipTy internationally in a reliable manner. He wants your product, has had issues ordering it (without ridiculous shipping charges or no way to order it). He seems to have honestly tried to order stuff which I and many recommend he needs. When I had my TL failure I told him he should for sure reroute his breather at the minimum. I got several PMs about how frustrating it was to try and get stuff internationally from ZipTy so much so I offered to ship it to him. I think like Ray and I there is tension and things escalate quickly. I think he was being honest when he said ordering parts was challenging and was giving a heads up not trying to take away from your fine company. My third party view of the issue.

Lets all move on now.

I have a ZipTy cap which is great. I had the Hardparts cap before that and it is good too. That cap is sitting here doing nothing. Send me your address and I'll send you the cap for free as I want to help in your time of need. I also have a seat cover and foam as I swapped mine out for a seat concepts. Need that too? You pay shipping and I'll send it all to you.

To all, we have been helpful on this website, not just a gaggle of yaa hoos yelling and bombing each other. Lets try and keep it that way, thats why I spend time here.
I happen to like pure racing bikes/pedigreed with results in racing is the 449/511 that kind of bike? No it did not turn out that way, perhaps with more devel and race devel (Like what ZIpTy has done with it) but neither is a KLX or DRZ or other for that matter and these models are super popular and at the same time nowhere near the tech level of the 449/511 family. The GS450 and its follow on family 449/511 were engineered as a exercise with different tech to be different bike, thats a good thing as so many vehicles are all just freaking cloned and evolved into basically the same thing. Are there un-evolved issues , yes like every machine in its infancy.
To the write up at hand- Is there some sort of 449/511 fire trend absolutley not....the internet is good for data gathering and it appears (I have no real data to support this) that "1" 449 caught on fire---after it was down from a crash/tip over even, (not to minimize the writers bad circumstance)
For our professional maintenance and mishap data collection this does not constitute really any sort of engineering investigation.....we all ready have done that (we= ZipTy- Bill's etc) and know that the OEM fuel cap can be problematic and even with a known issue there can still be factored in user error (again Im not saying in this case, but those are all factors in investigations)
Machines fail (machine in this case is a simple plastic fuel cap) humans designed them....
....OK I can go on and on but I think you all get the idea.

PS for the writer it was written that Husqvarna adopted the GS450 BMW design as their own, it was really thrust upon the Husky Varese engineering/design group as BMW bought the company and wanted to further evolve the GS machine, Im sure, to try to get better ROI on their 450 project, because it really did not go as well as many expected, myself included after seeing the very cool BMW tech preproduction GS450 demo bike.
The Italian/German rework of the design (449/511) is a well evolved design using the foundation set forth in the original BMW GS design, as well as with what they had to work with by direction of the BMW corp engineering bosses. That entire line as it was is a dead model family line. Luckily right here we have high level devel and evolution being done with these 449/511 bikes for those that have them, just follow the dots and build you own 449/511 into whatever you want it to be or in some cases kind of need to to be (like this fuel cap "update" mod) as usual long winded from 'accio....
Point instead of any bashing/model bashing etc use these issues to find solutions/bullet proofing/devel/ EVOLVE the machine with knowledge gained from these issues- we all benefit and enjoy the ride that way.

Despite the bad press this bike has received, it seems everyone who actually bought one seems to eventually really like them. To me it is a lot like what a modern revision of a DRZ would be like if Suzuki took the time to revise it. I'm keeping mine as long as I can get parts for it.

OK, maybe my post was not called for, but you must acknowelge that it is very frustrating to not be able to recieve good customer service.
I also said that you were fixing it.

I have had my credit card skimmed in the past & am very wary of e-mailing those details & using third party companies I don't know, like the suggested Bongo from your old site.

I applaude you for fixing the freight to your o/s customers, this will only help your company get more sales of your engineered products.
Far from bashing as you called it, this is what my PMs & e-mails were about. Nothing more.

I will say no more on it.
