  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Reviving an old thread here. 2Premo, can you tell me what year and model bike you took the Brembo master cylinder from to add to your '93s front brake? The front brake on my '93 is a little spongy and I am thinking of upgrading the master cylinder like you did.

Also, could anyone direct me to what the Wallybeans airboot mod is?

Thanks!

wow been a while since I did it, but, from memory the master was off an 88 Husqvarna, new in a box and looked like it would fit, but the hose did not, again from memory, the hose is also from an 88, that being said I personally felt it was an improvement in braking and brake lever feel
I will look at it this evening and if I was wrong will correct the post

I did a compression reading on my 360 last week and sure enough, I think my hard starting is due to low compression - about 120psi. It will only start with the throttle wide open. I had originally been thinking that the pilot circuit needed to be cleaned and that was causing the hard starting but after inspection, the carb looked spotless when I took it apart for a cleaning. I thought it kicked over much easier than most of my other bikes, so that probably should have clued me in right off. Since I am going to need to do a new top-end, I am wondering if any of you can comment on what a good squish clearance might be on the 360? I've read that a few members have played with theirs but haven't read any results of those efforts. The recommended squish clearance of 2.6mm (.102") listed in the manual seems kind of large to me based on the other bikes I have done squish mods on (2 KTM 300's)..
Off the top of my head, I was thinking maybe .060" to .070" would be a good squish clearance to get a little more bottom-end boost. I'd like to be able to run on premium pump gas and not have to run race gas. Any thoughts on this guys?

It was a few years ago now but I took mine down to .55 if I remember correctly.
Your issue may just be a set of rings.
The 360 doesn't actually have high compression when freshthink mine was 150 psi
But 120 sounds low.

I will do a search for my squish clearance thread.
There you go Brian bush

Ya Juicypips, the cylinder liner looks good. Cross hatching still noticeable. Maybe I just need a new set of rings or perhaps a piston and rings (I haven't taken the cylinder off yet to inspect the piston, just inspected the cylinder by moving the piston to bottom dead center). Should know more soon.. By the way, does your bike run well on premium pump gas with the 0.55" squish clearance? My KTM 300's do at 0.55" squish but then again, this is a different animal.. Many thanks!

the squish of different brands is not a good comparison due to head shape
too close of a tolerance could lead to damage, George Erl said he lowered the squish to preserve the engines
he did my 93 and it lasted quite a few years, but he said tight squish is hard on the rod and generally the bottom end
by the way KTM uses typically lower compression as a two stroke makes dynamic compression by design and they are not dogs

I only use 97+ Ron I'm sure it would be fine on lesser grades tho but that's due to the lectron. t
If your going to cut squish band you may have to recess the dome into the cylinder like I did.
No issues so far she's still pulling like a freight train.
Yah higher stress on parts n all that but I honestly didn't think the original clearance was working as well as it does now!

Thanks again Juicy, can you elaborate a bit on recessing the dome into the cylinder? I'm not quite certain I fully understand..

to get the correct squish height I had to remove more material than was there.
There's like a 20 thou lip of metal before the dome starts, I had to remove 40+ so I took that off but left the dome alone.
Simple job in a lathe.
