• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Stupid questions or not..?? Husky 650 Intermittent Stopping

The problem is that our bike is now out of production. So because no one will do anything official. Know that the bike is no longer in production because it is no longer the BMW Husqvarna but is passed to a group of KTM. The parent, however, has released an update of the unit, but in my case it has only improved slightly pronblema. But he has not solved. Tired of losing time and do me nervous I bought the Booster Plug. Now the bike is perfect in every weather condition. it is true that the temperature on the display is so wrong but even before it has never been too reliable because of the location of the temperature sensor. Believe me mount the booster plug and forget about it.

Install a Microsquirt fuel injection system and you can do all that by yourself using your own laptop !
It's an option anyway :oldman:

Here's the thing, yes we can bolt all manner of gizzmos and gadgets, but we are papering over the cracks, so to speak. The ECU's in our bikes is a world leading brand, not a micky duck piece of garbage from timbucktwo. So, why can we just get a new map or change the map in our current units, its a simple matter of finding someone with the know how, and with all of our collective knowledge as owners and users we should be able to do this.

ok can we start with gathering some data on the ECU system:

Who manufactures the ECU, is it www.magnetimarelli.com?

IAW MBC
The “stand-alone” control unit, designed to support the “traditional” architecture, is made using high-density SMD technology. It weights approximately 300 grams, and it can withstand operating temperatures from–40°C to +65°C for full-load operations and up to +85°C for minimum operation. It is intended for installation to the vehicle body.
The connections to the external input/output are carried out by means of a single connector with 48 ways.
The control unit pilots up to 2 injection channels and 2 independent ignition channels, a stepper motor for minimum control and a driver for the piloting of the canister valve. For those versions that require it, the exhaust valve position control and the traction control management is integrated in the system at the logic level. Mixing is controlled by means of 1 lambda probe of the heated ON/OFF type.
The reduced overall dimensions make it easier to be installed on the vehicle.

Do you own this system? Any information on what is needed to install it on our bikes?

No I don't have tis system, I did use the "Megasquirt" system however which is designed for use in cars. That was usable with two different maps at the flick of a switch which was handy as I ran it on petrol and LPG (that's "gas" and err, LPG Liquified Petroleum Gas)
I used that with the original ignition system but you could add ignition to the Megasquirt as well using separate coils for each sparkplug.
You could drive that and tune it with your laptop altering fuel/air ratios etc. It used a wide band lambda probe.

Here's the link again: http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/microsquirt-engine-management-system-30-wiring-harness-p-131.html

I'm not really inclined at this point to undertake fitting the MS system as I need to invest in fitting out our bikes for a big trip next year.

Hasenpfeffer,

I just sent them an inquiry along with a picture of our ECU with the Model number. I will post up if and when I hear back from them.

I know it is a leading brand, but it is completely absorbed by KTM. He also thinks that our bike is a bike economy. I believe that never arrives more support to that already provided to correct the problem. But you've already done the upgrade to the official control of the manufacturer? Many say they have solved all the problems as well. I honestly have only had a miglioramente but my bike was still spegersi. An alternative, in case you want to correct all the carburetion of your bike is fitted the Power Commander and have a good mapping to the bench. Do you take away from all the problems and spend relatively little.

This would not be a palliative, it would not close the cracks, but perfectly correct fuel mixture.

Guys this is all good stuff......but magnetimarelli.com is a huge company (as I understand), we just need someone who can speak Italian to go to their customer service people and explain our situation and inquire of the options that are available to us...I will spend money too.....I am not asking for anything free.

I got a follow up email from Technoresearch. No help!

Hi Charles,

Unfortunately we don’t sell any tools that can tune/remap any Husqvarna. We do have a diagnostic tool, but it is limited to diagnostic features only.

Hey Charlie, how are your persuasion skills? I snooped around again for a possible hacker for the Mag Morelli and ran across this site.

http://forum.500madness.com/showthread.php?1556-Magneti-Marelli-ECU-tuning-software#.U2BVsSjdv-k

These guys seem to be able to hack different mag morelli ecu's for fiat. This is just from a random search, and I have no idea how credible or good they are.

I still do not understand why not opt for the solution of the power commander. With one connected in series with the original file unit can vary a multitude of carburetion parameters to your liking. And it can always be done to suit your needs.

Your right, but its just one more thing to go wrong and from what I can gather (please correct me if I am wrong) its a "dumb" system and cant adjust by itself unless you add the Autotune as well, where as the OEM unit is continually adjusting it just needs a tweak for little more juice....

I'm retired military on a military pension and budget. Besides, I have already paid for the Magneti Marelli ECU. If we can gain access to tuning it then we can eliminate the cost of a new Power Commander and autotune. The PC and AT are $465 usd at MotoMummy and that is the cheapest I can find it.
